What film did you watch last night?

Well, yeah, I did say I understand why :D

Why does my opinion of The Martian upset people more

Absolute rubbish, and not a patch on the Aston Kutcher one (which everyone hates because its cool to hate Kutcher).

Nothing more than a few backstage scenes at apple keynotes.

I was expecting much more, and thank heavens I didn't pay to go to the cinema. Not even winslet could save this disaster.

I don't think it's your opinion of it that upsets people (although criticising a popular film does tend to provoke stronger responses), I think it's more that you pretty much set the guy up to give his opinion on why he likes it in order for you to provide your opinion of why you don't - and perhaps why he shouldn't.

Guardians of the Galaxy - 8.5/10

Second viewing, really enjoyable film. A good test of my new home cinema system too, it has been too long since I last owned one :)

At the risk of being lynched (since this is another insanely popular movie by my own admission), I thought GotG was one of the worst films I've ever watched.

It's in the top (bottom!) 5 of all time.

I honestly wanted to kill myself at the end of that film. Just did not want to live on this planet any more.

Prometheus was amazing by comparison, and I hate Prometheus with a passion.

Sorry, had to get that off my chest.

life of pi - 8/10 - good film, follows the book well, although i still don't understand why some people say it makes them believe in god, when i would say the story is about the the exact opposite.

This is perception...

When I asked the guy to provide reasons I was genuinely interested.

How, what power do I have to highlight why he shouldn't like it. Thats got nothing to do with me surely?

Me saying the film is too long is not dissing his opinion he thinks the duration is fine does it?

I'm just offering my opinion.

Thats why I love film.

Its fine he likes it. I have no issue with that one bit. He should be fine with why I don't like it...

My point is if you are going to walk the walk in a film forum and take the time to type an opinion at least tell us why you like something is all.

It comes across like you are being disingenuous and simply looking for an argument when you take a popular and clearly good film and are super critical about it and give it an absurd 50% score!! (yes yes we know it's not PERFECT)

Just for clarity are you still claiming that you think 'Jurrasic World' is a better film which you enjoyed more than 'The Martian' ?? This to me is absurd!! But hey, each to their own!

I never read this review or any other review before watching The Martian.

3/5

I mention it had very little peril in it.

‘For a survival flick it’s actually pretty light on peril, but it’s not short of thrills’ ... Matt Damon in The Martian. Photograph: Allstar/20TH CENTURY FOX

I just posted what I felt after watching it. It wasn't being disingenuous. I was being honest.

Absolutely. The Martian is a survival film...Jurassic World is a thrills and spills blockbuster with T-Rex eating sea monsters

Jurassic park was more enjoyable for me. It did its job.

The Martian Failed to connect me to watneys situation. He was in control the whole time.

I fail to see why posting my honest opinion is disingenuous just because a movie is popular. I'm not looking for an arguemment. I'm posting my opinion.

If The Martian took me to places like The Abyss did..I would be posting a completely different view of the film.

Creed 7/10

The filming of the fights I thought were great, scouse character was really annoying.
Please leave the rocky character alone now, these should have stopped at 4

I was asked...I gave...

Dude you really need to chill...:D

This thread is about watching a movie and giving an opinion...that's what hundreds of people have been doing since this thread started...

Singling me out is out of order. Why can everyone else voice their opinion and I can't..

If my posts upset you then put me on ignore...

Nothing you've put down upset me!?

I appreciate the reply and your reasons for not liking it in your previous post and most of your reasons are indeed valid to one degree or another too - I agree. But the same goes for every single si-fi film that's ever been made to be fair...and hell, someone may have done a vid about Memento being a load of pants too for all we know (god forbid).

Anyway as said, you made some valid points but while noted and accepted in the main they didn't detract too much from the film for me.

The film doesn't present it nearly as well as the book. The point is that he told a story about a tiger, a zebra, a hyena and an orang-utan, which may or may not have been true; we are later told that it was him, a sailor, a ship's cook and his mother. Whichever it was, something dramatic happened, and both stories tell the same events, but with different characters and different descriptions of how and why. So both are true in their own way. The closing question of the book is to ask which, if both are true, you would choose to believe, when you can't readily prove either. I'd say it's more agnostic than actually pushing people towards faith, though.

Cool

My Favourite Sci-Fi movie is very cliché

2001

I love the predictions that came true...Skype, The ipad, etc...The film still looks stunning and HAL is so disconcerting its fantastic.

Still amazes me it was made in 1968

I watched Interstellar. At risk of being seen as hanging on easyrider's coat-tails... I really wasn't all that impressed. First and foremost, the sound mixing was dire. Between the heavy music and Matthew McConaughey's (sp?) drawling it was unintelligible in parts. Nolan claims it was an artistic decision, but if you have to explain your art in that way then you have failed. Secondly, it was much less science fiction than it was fictional science. Yes, there were some very clever bits, like the time dilation, and the bit where they had to dock with the spinning space station, but ultimately the whole thing relied on a stupid deus ex machina to "explain" how they resolved things, and even that left a huge gaping paradox lying around.

It's definitely not the 29th best film ever made, as the IMDb ratings would have you believe.

I was hoping for greatness...I was so looking forward to it. I drove miles to Sheffield IMAX to see it.

Disappointed was an understatement.

The ending is bilge, though.

I like the ambiguity. But I can see why people hate the ending.

I still don't get the ending. Buts that fine by me.:p

Oh indeed, a great film for sure. Interstellar probably wouldn't scratch the surface of my top 10 sc-fi list if I had one to be honest. Some of these might though - Dark Star, Phase IV, Solaris (1972), Alien, The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951), The Time Machine (1960), The Andromeda Strain and what's likely my own favourite, Blade Runner.

I quite enjoyed most of them, tbh. They were what I've come to expect from comic book movies. A bit shallow but serviceable. Hell, I mostly enjoyed both Thor movies, Iron Man, Avengers...

GotG was, I'm afraid, absolute drivel. Just the sloppiest, stinkiest, most rotten poop you have ever seen. Like I said, one of the worst movies I've ever watched. Nothing good to say about it, at all.
