What film did you watch last night?

Reading all the feedback about La La Land not taking notice that it's a musical... I thought it was some fantasy story like Harry Potter or something.... Colour me not amused :/

The first 20 mins has like 30seconds of dialogue.

There are less songs after half way through and by musical standards there are not that many numbers (a few instrumental pieces), and more dialogue heavy after the first 45mins.

I think your reaction is why some people left, they go in not knowing it's a musical and especially the start where it begins with a big sing and dance number.

A bit like the start to Michael Jacksons Moonwalker eh? I was only a young pup at the time when I went to see it in the Cinema but the musical bit at the start felt like it went on forever. It was the first time as a boy I had left a movie feeling so bitterly disappointed and my Saturday night out treat had been ruined :( lol

Honestly the only musical musical bit are the start, when they dance at the scene on the poster and an audition scene at the end. The rest of it with music it's used more like any other score in every movie IMO as quite a few are instrumental.

It's nothing like Les Miserables.

Swiss army man.

Wow incredible..

Wasn't so sure after first 15 mins as it was 3:30 am when I started watching it.. but so glad I kept watching..

What a film. 9/10

Lion

Give that boy Sunny Padwar an Oscar.

The first half of this movie it is almost like a documentary in the way how natural (good) the acting is. Anyway, I wasn't going to watch this but as a part of my "watch all the Oscar nominated movie" project, thought i give this a shot and it is really good. The first half of this movie is especially strong and makes quite uncomfortable viewing in the harsh environment that a large part of the world's population lives, especially children.

Dev Petal is really good too as the grown version of the main character. The last scene is really moving and it really hits home.

Not my favourite movie of the year, but a story well worth telling and worth seeing.

8/10.

It's more new musicals I can't stand.

The old classics like you listed are are totally different and timeless.

They say la la Land are like the old ones, they as in almost everyone.

Shot on the same lens/style. Minimal editing, lots of one long shots, the colours and dance are very old school.

Split...a solid 8/10

Went in cautiously optimistic about this, the trailer was good, folks have been saying it's good...and it was good.

McAvoy genuinely makes you believe each personality is actually a different personality for the most part.

I think it's a good return to form for Shyamalan...and that ending, something to make the movie nerds like me gush a little :D

Split - A lot better than expected. Really strong performance by James McAvoy. Had a nice little twist that i did not see coming. ;) 8/10

Better than lala land ......ok j/k Sorry Ray

That's alright, we are all different people :)

Hacksaw Ridge tonight, then that just leaves Fences and Manchester By the Sea left from Best Movies shortlist.

p.s. saw La La Land for the 4th time on Wednesday :p
