What film did you watch last night?

Lol, I mean....

The 6th Sense, The Usual Suspects, Fight Club, Se7en, The Game, The Sting, Saw, Shawshank Redemption, Planet of the Apes...just off my head.

Sure, I didn't see the ending for Split coming, and by ending, I think you mean the last 10 seconds. That alone doesn't save the movie, it makes it more interesting as a result but take away that 10 seconds, it's a 7/10 movie for me. Good, but not great.

Shutter (not the horrific US version, don't watch that, ever).

I, Daniel Blake. 9/10

Excellent film. Great performances and one of those films that leaves you thinking about it for days after.

The scene in the food bank will live in my memory for a long time. Left me feeling so desperate and angry for Katie. :(

The Accountant

Much better than I was expecting! in fact I found it very enjoyable. Even Mrs Punt liked it, not very often we both like the same movie!

Thought Batfleck did a decent enough job but can't get away with Anna Kendrick, nowt wrong with her acting, just don't like her looks for whatever reason

8/10

Every Tory needs to see it.

Source Code - not as good as Groundhog Day or The Edge of Tomorrow but not all that bad. 3/5

Anomalisa
- incredible stop motion and a script from Charlie Kaufman make this a little gem of a film. Odd and quirky but fun too. 4/5

Watched Nocturnal Animals off the back of the last few pages of this thread.

9/10

I really really enjoyed it..

Ghost In The Shell (original anime)

Finally sat down to watch this properly with the gf, and neither of us were impressed!

Why all the hype? Hardly anything happens, far too much screen time is just shots of the city with music playing, not a particularily interesting story line.

I get the idea that it was great "for it's time", which I feel other, older "AI goes rogue" films like Bladerunner or Westworld defintely are, but I didn't feel the same about GitS.

The Princess Mononoke, which came out only 2 years later, is vastly superior imo.

5/10

Yeah, I thought it was over-rated as well. Too short and padded out as you say with extended mood shots of the city scape and so on. Story lent itself to being fleshed out with more to it. Maybe I't was just financial constraints or something.

Finally got around to watching to Ex_Machina. Pretty damn good considering how unlikeable the 2 main characters are.

God I love that movie. An example of perfect pacing imo. Whilst you're right that Caleb's character wasn't the most likeable, it didn't really bother me too much. Same with Nathan, though of course he mantles the antagonist role in the movie more so then anything else. I'm actually of the opinion that there characters where deliberately played down to have AVA seem more human in most respects. That ending stayed with me for days after first viewing.

The ambiguity it leaves you with in regards to Ava's intent was deeply unsettling.

Lego Batman Movie - 5/10

Wasn't that good, a few chuckles that's about it.

Saw it in "4dx"...Wasn't that impressed with the added effects, won't be rushing back to use it again. Much preferred the Showcase upgrade where I saw I, Daniel Blake whilst laying out horizontally in a leather lazy boy armchair

Arrival

4/10

To be honest I found the film slow and depressing building up to something that never happens..

Yes, it had a good reviews but I can't really see why!..

Boring uninteresting Aliens
Boring trips back and forth the ship
Nothing is ever explained

I've always been a Sci-fi fan but this was pure boredom...

Hacksaw Ridge. Perhaps the perfect Valentine's movie. Half love story half all out action. Not quite up there with the big hitters but second to none in portraying the gore and violence of ww2. A good solid 8/10.

Man vs Snake
7/10
A surprisingly entertaining documentary following two people trying to break the world record for a game high score.
