What film did you watch last night?

Eagle Huntress

Heard a lot about this Documentary over the past year. Expected a little more if I'm honest...

Still a great story about triumphing over archaic prejudice, but I felt the film makers completely over egged certain moments. Blatantly setting up certain shots for dramatic effect where the actual story itself would have been enough.

Would still recommend though. Extremely well put together.

Chernobyl Diaries

Was on the Horror Channel in the background, and was expectedly awful. Especially the outrunning dogs thing, haha.

1/10

Fist Fight

By the numbers comedy, but had a few chuckle moments, especially the female guidance counciller.

6/10

CHIPS

I actually vaguely watched the series in my youth, so decided to give this a try. Actually some decent laughs in places, and some great biking. Even has a cameo from Astrada :D

6/10

Beauty & The Beast

Gf's choice, and I'll admit it wasn't actually that bad. Not that I really ever watched the animated version, but the songs were all on point as far as I could tell. Mrs Pott was annoying as hell though.

7/10

Resident Evil - The Final Chapter & Underworld - Blood Wars.
Missus was away so i thought i would grab 20 cans of strongbow and a couple of films.
Both series have been a bit hit and miss over the last decade but overall they where watchable mindless fun.
Well both of these are crap ,
Underworld not even Beckinsale in tight leather can save this one 2/10
Resident Evil , slighty less crap than Underworld 3/10

Two films I watched this weekend.

GridIron Gang - 7/10 I like the Rock in movies. I think he has the presence to make terrible movies watchable :) The movie itself was pretty good, based on a true story. Lots of cliches, but after watching the documentary of the real story, the movie kept pretty much to real events and conversations. Enjoyable if you like sports movies.

The Great Wall - 5/10 Spectacular to look at, the colours and the scene where they first found the wall looked amazing! The film is a leave your brain at the door kind of movie. What disappointed me most about it was how easy it would have been to make it so much better. They had the cast, the amazing set, a brilliant enemy and it could have been a brilliant movie.

The Survivalist: Uber bleak, post apocalyptic tale of a guy living in the woods in a world where everyone wants to slit your throat while you're sleeping and nick your carrots. Very well done, but not my bag. If you liked The Road - book or movie - you'll likely like this too. 7/10

The Talented Mr. Ripley: I hadn't watched this since the 90s and honestly cannot fault it at all. It's hard to do the movie justice in a brief summary, so I won't. Go in blind if you haven't seen it or just watch it again if you have. Up there with Jaws and Shawshank for me. 10/10

Gattaca: Another classic from the 90s and a must see for any sci-fi fans. Or any fan of good movies tbh. It touches on the ethics of and repercussions of genetic tampering and is just great. 9/10

A good weekend of movie watching all in all!

The Witch.

don't know what to make of it. it wasn't bad but there was just something about it that I can't quite put my finger on. It's a decent story and interesting in it's portrayal of a Christian families torment. I get what they were trying to do with the film and it does work but as i say there's just something not quite right.

It's definitely not really a horror as such a lot of the so called horror is implied.

I have to score it middle of the road 5/10 - I really wanted to either love or hate it but I just can't do either.

The Rezort.

utter mindless tripe but I suppose it was a passable way to kill a couple of hours. I'm guessing Dougray Scott got an unexpected tax bill he had to sort!

another 5/10

There was too much preamble for me. I like a slow story/build up, but just wanted them to get on with it in The Witch.

Bokeh

Had this on my rental list as it looked like it could be interesting, its about a couple on a trip to Iceland and waking up one morning to find everyone has vanished.
See it listed on Netflix so cancelled my movie rental and watched it on Netflix instead and Im pleased I did as it was pure crap, waste of 1hr and 30mins of my life. Honestly this is one to avoid and the movie needs to do a vanishing act altogether personally.

1/10

Baby Driver (2017) - 7/10

An interesting and entertaining heist movie that is slightly different due to its focus on music.

Although a wide range of music is used, it doesn’t always gel with the settings or the scenes like it should.

Fast paced chase scenes, characters who don’t always fit the norm, and a plot which has its heart in the right place, but could have done with more wit and humour.

John Carpenter's "The Thing" - 10/10

I honestly don't know what took me so long to get round to watching this classic but my word what a movie. The story, the effects, the characters, the suspense! I was honestly glued to my seat throughout and the time just flew by. This is the kind of movie that people say I wish I could watch that again without having watched it before. Going to be picking this up on blueray.

Saturday was a special day. My mates son had just turned 7 and we all sat down and watched New hope then 'Empire strikes back'.

The look on his face when the reveal happens in Empire was simply sublime.

Watched Wonder Woman finally.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. It had some cheesy CGI throughout, like when she’s jumping off the cliff to get into the water, it’s quite clearly a bit amateurish, like the green screen backdrop in a sitcom where people are driving a car and the background is the only thing “moving”.

Other than that, the script was fine and the whole cast was really good I felt.

Also, Gal Gadot is some serious eye candy as well. Doesn’t matter even if she’s wearing a hood or whatever. So glad she was cast for this role. Perfect person for it

An easy 8/10 for enoyment factor and Gal Gadot. James T Kirk, the lucky dog.

Split (2016) 9/10

Excellent movie and quite honestly I was gripped from start to finish.

McAvoy was excellent in his role and absolutely stole EVERY scene he was in. A brilliant performance.

I was able to predict the ending, and thought it was pretty scripted from about midway through the movie.

The link to 'Unbreakable' was excellent and now I have to rewatch that as well now.

Alien: Covenant ....... hmmmm...... I can't decide whether it's a 6 or 7. Maybe 6.5? Hahah

I dunno. I found it quite dull but mildly watchable I guess. And although not QUITE as bad as Prometheus in terms of character stupidity, it came close.

War Machine - 7 / 10

Brad Pitt playing the US General put in charge of dealing with Afghanistan. A bit of a confused film with the comedy not always working alongside the drama, and the overacting was a bit cheesy at times, but overall I enjoyed the sentiment of the film.

I've seen the film so it's no biggie for me but this is a massive spoiler so I'd probably put it in spoiler tags.

Get Out - 6.5/10. A weird movie (admittedly that's what it was going for I guess) where you just wonder wtf is going to happen until the last act when it goes off. Entertaining none the less.
