What film did you watch last night?

Hated it after all the hype on release...however...

It's literally all in her head, there is no creature, the whole thing at the end with her keeping it downstairs is symbolic of keeping her rage under control and locked inside

figured it some of that nonsense. not a horror film in the slightest. just a psychological thriller really (and **** poor at that too!)

John Carpenter's "The Thing" - 10/10

I honestly don't know what took me so long to get round to watching this classic but my word what a movie. The story, the effects, the characters, the suspense! I was honestly glued to my seat throughout and the time just flew by. This is the kind of movie that people say I wish I could watch that again without having watched it before. Going to be picking this up on blueray.

Yep they don't make them like that anymore. I have seen this film more times than I can remember and it is just expertly done. The cast of characters make it almost like an Agatha Christi story. It is hugely re watchable because even though you know who will turn the fun is watching it back and wondering when they might have been got at. Brilliant character driven story telling and practical effects that blow CGI out of the water for sheer weirdness.

Never seen the 2013 prequel and have no intention to.

Unaware.

The found footage genre has been flogged to death so often, we're now left with little more than dust and fossils, but in 2010 Sean Bardin, Scott Shrosbee, and Robert Cooley decided to give it the old college try. This movie is the fruit of their labours, and won awards for Best Feature & Best Special Effect at the 2011 Indie Horror Film Festival.

With a controversial cast of just four people, and a running time of 81 minutes, Unaware pushes the boundaries of artistic expression in ways previously considered too radical for western film making.

The two main characters enjoy good chemistry, and their dialogue and behaviour is refreshingly natural. Production values are typical for a low budget indie movie of this genre, but performances from the two lead actors are robust and consistent.

Alas, the thin plot—some dude takes his girlfriend to his uncle's ranch, where creepy alien-related shenanigans occur—is poorly developed, and never reaches its full potential. Several scenes are incomprehensibly dark, which frustrates the viewer and minimises the visual impact.

I rate Unaware at 16.65 on the Haglee Scale, which works out as a disappointing 5/10 on IMDB.

John Carpenters The Thing is one of my absolute favourite films of all time, everything about it is near perfect, even the theme tune is simplistic yet perfect.

Have to say, that I really enjoyed the 2013 prequel as well (admittedly in part because I think that Mary Elizabeth Winstead is sex incarnate) , but even aside from that I enjoyed the prequel, it wasnt as good as the JC film but it does tie in very nicely and I love the way the prequel ends which literally allows you to watch the 2 films back to back absolutely seamlessly and have them connect perfectly.

Shame they went with too much CGI on the prequel, have you seen the outtakes of the practical effect tests, they were amazing.

Spiderman Homecoming (2017) - 9/10

A fun and entertaining film full of jokes, a great character development arc, and realistic (but still comic book) villain.

Top special effects with exciting action scenes throughout with a plot which has a good balance of personal involvement and superhero antics.

Good acting and the continuous referrals to the Avengers series works well, but the range of new characters vary in suitability, and the plot is a bit too straightforward overall.

Glad I'm not the only one!

I was sold a duff film based on an action packed trailer with train crashes and super heroes from the master of suspense himself M. Night Shamalamadingdong and instead got a "talkie" film about a childs faith in his parent being slowly understood by the parent to be true. It's the only film I've genuinely wanted to walk out of the cinema too, it was so bad :D

Seriously? I thought this was a great film.

Fantastic and truly original take on a superhero film. I'd take this over endless Spiderman and xmen films anyday.

Each to their own I guess....

Fast Furious 8 (or what ever it's called)

1/10

Absolutely abysmal.

Surely Charlize Theron looking smoking hot is worth an extra point or three, and some of the banter betwixt Statham and the Rock was pretty funny. But like above, it was a pretty decent 'switch your brain off' action movie right up until they got to the ice and that submarine malarkey.

I saw both Despicable Me 3 and Baby Driver yesterday. Despicable Me was quite alright, some decent jokes and some nostalgic music.

Baby Driver was really good, and as many others I love how they incorporated the music in the movie. I could relate quite well to the main character as I'm pretty much the same with my music. Always having my Ipod plugged into my ears when I'm out and about (unless I'm with someone else)
and music decided depending on what I'm doing. Really like how the story unfolds as well towards the end.

I watched it based on a few people in this thread saying how good it was . I got bored after about 20 minutes. I thought it would be all the good things I'd heard. It just ended up being a M. Night Shyamalan film. I only have it 1 because SLJ is in it.

Ah I think you might be being a bit harsh. Don't forget it came out before superhero movies were a normal thing. Plus you're not really supposed to think it's a superhero movie until 3/4s of the way through! That was part of it's charm. Knowing that going in will detract from it. Bit like knowing Bruce Willis is, you know, in 6th Sense.

American Gangster - 6/10.

Validated that it's as boring as I remember it and Cuba Gooding Jnr seems an unnecessary element. Funny to see a few actors at the beginning of their careers in it though.

If I'd seen a "played straight" superhero film with a single scene with anything like 1/10th of the tension of the Kid/Gun/Willis: test your dads invulnerability scene, I might disagree, currently I don't. V for Vendetta, Unbreakable and maybe Watchmen mostly show up all the more family orientated Superhero films and I say that despite my love of the (MCU especially) source material of the later.

I'd take true appreciation by the few over the "meh it's pretty good" of the Many, Fight Club, The Thing even Shawshank on release, are pretty good examples of why.

The endless banter was one of the things that got on my nerves. It dragged on in the previous films, but this was just too much for me.

And the rubbish OTT CGI scenes were the icing on the cake.....

It Comes At Night (2017) - 4/10

It doesn’t really go anywhere or do anything different, but it is an effectively creepy and sometimes shocking film.

Good acting with some disturbing scenes, but the lack of real horror or any attempt at explaining the setting leaves the whole experience underwhelming.
