What film did you watch last night?

Ah I think you might be being a bit harsh. Don't forget it came out before superhero movies were a normal thing. Plus you're not really supposed to think it's a superhero movie until 3/4s of the way through! That was part of it's charm. Knowing that going in will detract from it. Bit like knowing Bruce Willis is, you know, in 6th Sense.
yeah, because the proper Superman films didn't come out in the (late) 70's/80s

If I'd seen a "played straight" superhero film with a single scene with anything like 1/10th of the tension of the Kid/Gun/Willis: test your dads invulnerability scene, I might disagree, currently I don't. V for Vendetta, Unbreakable and maybe Watchmen mostly show up all the more family orientated Superhero films and I say that despite my love of the (MCU especially) source material of the later.

I'd take true appreciation by the few over the "meh it's pretty good" of the Many, Fight Club, The Thing even Shawshank on release, are pretty good examples of why.

I really enjoyed v for Vendetta too. Excellent film.

I think the problem with unbreakable is the way it was advertised. A lot of people expected a more action packed film.

That just isn't what unbreakable is. It's a very slow burning film with a great story and an even better twist at the end.

Some great moments in the film. Like you mentioned, the gun scene. Also loved the moment he realises how he can use his powers and stands in the middle of a crowd letting them brush against him.

And the ending just sends a chill down your spine.

It's an intelligent film that doesn't rely on overblown CGI guff like most others. I'm fed up with watching films that look more like video games.

Fantastic in my opinion and my favourite 'superhero' film by far.

Watchmen

Twas a fresh turd when I saw it at the flicks all those years ago, and it remains so to this day. To each his own and all, but I honestly don't understand how this flick has managed to garner such a following.

Malin Akerman's performance alone brings the movie to it's knees. Completely and utterly destroys the incredibly nuanced arc that Dr Manhattan could have had.

Twoddle.

I've said it before, but it bears repeating. Alan Moore wrote Watchmen to show that there's things you can do in comics that cannot be translated into the screen. They made the film anyway, and they proved him right.

Yep. Fair play to him for having next to nothing to do with it. Even sent the cheque back. Can only ever admire someone who stands by there convictions to such a massive extent.

Even so and for all the flaws of the film adaptation, some of Moore's creation cannot be dulled by Snyder, "I'm not locked in here with you, you're locked in here with me!"

The Great Wall - 6/10

Pretty poorly written for the most part with some cringey scenes for sure.

Assassins Creed - 4/10

Did the original trilogy of video games no justice at all (the less said about the more recent titles the better). Fassbender was the only reason I didn't give it 1/10.

First film i've considering walking out of the cinema on in 20 years, it was utterly terrible, even the mighty Bassfender couldn't save it.

"These final hours!"

Australian film on Netflix which despite having a small budget compared to a Hollywood blockbuster, it managed to be quite good. The story is pretty interesting and the acting fairly decent. I enjoyed watching it more than I expected.
It's about the final hours of an Australian man after a extinction level event (meteor) happens on the other side of the planet and they know they have only 12hrs left.

I would recommend it for a quiet day. 6.5/10

Logan. 10/10. ******* Awesome! Been waiting so long for this, ultra violent, gory, loads of swearing, perfect. :D

Just watched today. Yes it has gore and violence etc. but what it didn't have was an interesting and engaging storyline. Worst X-Men film of the series imo. I'll be generous and give it 5/10.

Did we watch the same X-Men movies? I'll admit that 'Logan' is perhaps the most grounded of them all, but that was a good thing imo.

Plus, Logan is almost ENTIRELY unique amongst superhero movies these days in that it actually has an ending. A damn good one too.

Once you get past the swearing and violence, it's a pretty poor film.

I came out of the cinema thinking all kinds of OMG, that was amazing, wow...such goodness...watched it again recently, found it terribly dull.

Can't possibly be worse than Apocalypse, that was Spiderman 3 levels of superhero awfulness.

I kind of felt that way about DOFP as well tbh.

I think it's a very well constructed film, regardless of subjective opinion on whether it's good or not. All the characters have great arcs and whilst the plot might not be particularly inspired, it plods along at a good enough pace.
