What film did you watch last night?

USS Indianapolis: Men of courage.

Bang average. When you think about the true story premise of this film. Ship on secret mission sunk by Japanese and hundreds of men in the sea and eaten by sharks, you wonder how it's not possible to make a good job of it. But it's very meh and has a stupid love triangle sub plot which was totally not needed. Cages overacting is annoying too. That intense look must hurt his face muscles having to do it for the entire film. Very underwhelming and I can see why it went straight to video. 4/10.

If you like the idea of the film, I would advise you watch an earlier film about it instead called Mission of the Shark starring Stacy Keach. A lot better than this.

Ancien and the Magic Tablet / Napping Princess

We were annoyed that what supposed to be Japanese with subs turned out to be a god-awful dub (as they most are) and sadly the film didn't live up to our expectations given the last 3 anime films we saw at the cinema (Your Name, A Silent Voice, and Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale).

It's starts off a bit confusing, as there is no initial explanation as to what is going on, but it eventually forms a sensible narrative (albeit absurbdly done). The film is generally silly, with a few laughs, but I didn't feel the weird hybrid of Slice Of Life/Fantasy/Mecha really worked.

5.5/10 mainly as some of the scenes are nicely animated.

The Hitman's Bodyguard (2017) - 8/10

Entertaining and fun, if a little too silly or slow at times.

The plot is simple, but has more depth to it than expected through the character building scenes, which depending on if you like the characters or not, will make you laugh or roll your eyes.

The action scenes are done really well, with a mixture of carnage and comedy, stunts and destructive mayhem.

I saw The Hitmans Bodyguard earlier today and i absolutely loved it. Great action and some really good humor as well. Both Reynolds and Jackson do great in the characters which in many ways are quite typical of what they have played successfully in the last few years. I would say its a 8/10/

Anabelle 2 : creation 7/10

Or something like that... Creepy doll possession demon movie.
Jesus, it's exactly what you expect from this type of film. It's not great but it's creepy, jumpy and cliché scarey, well made scares and suspensive stuff.

All these conjuring spin offs are fairly ok... Bad but ok ...

Hmm, i dont even think i've seen the first one, might have to check them out soon. Last decentish horror I watched was Sinister, but apparently sinister 2 isn't as good.

Poolhall Junkies. Was expecting a mix of The Color of Money, Rounders and maybe some gangster thing going on. Instead it was a mix of coming of age, fraternity party thing. I never made it to the end so maybe it perked up.

2/10

You don't have to like all the work you do.

You just have to be professional while doing it, goes for any job.

So stuff how unhappy he was, the film is a good watch :p

He does seem a bit of a miserable, boring old goat in his interviews xD

Still, Nil By Mouth and his work in pretty much everything he's ever done excuses him from all that imo.

And I think that actually does show how great Gary is as an actor. He may be miserable and hate what he is doing, but he played his role incredibly well

A Ghost Story - 9/10

Sounds like a film to hate. To quote Peter Bradshaw's review;
..It is also a piercingly strange meditation on loss and grieving and what it means to imagine the people we love one day going on without us, and to imagine how the world is and was beyond our own fragile, temporary lives.
Ugh, right? And on top of that it is shown with a faux film border in 4:3 (it was shot digital) which infuriated me!! Not to mention it is Casey Affleck in a sheet with holes in? Wut?

But seriously this is a film quite unlike anything I've seen. During the first 20mins I was very close to walking out. Especially during the "pie" scene. But once I powered through that I was hooked. This was a private screening in a small screening room and at the end we just sat there in silence for about 5mins. Wow.

If you get on board with this, it's truly something special. Big thumbs up.

The Dark Tower (2017) - 4/10

Everything about this film is just OK – it never excels or really disappoints, apart from the ending which is rather anticlimactic and just kind of fizzles out. The actions scenes are good and the characters are interesting enough, but the villain could have been more menacing, the plot could have been less cliché, and the settings could have been more memorable.
