What film did you watch last night?

Life- 5/10

Nothing we haven't seen before, done much much better. Uninteresting characters and I found a lot of it kind of boring in places tbh.

It's weird though. Even though I didn't like it, I'm kind of glad trash like this gets made every now and again... It's the sort of film I'll watch late at night when I'm drunk in ten years time and I'll just be half watching it and find it acceptable if you know what I mean...

Also -

I'm glad Ryan Reynolds died first he was bloody annoying!

The Limehouse Golem (2017) - 9/10

A great murder-mystery story in the dark and dingy setting of pre-industrial London with a plot that will keep you hooked until the very end.

The acting is great with well-rounded characters who although downtrodden, have some rather astute and comical observations.

The presentation is never stale, with gory and violent murders mixed in with the tumultuous life of being on the stage.

Agreed...pretty much the pinnacle of MCU...how people consider civil war a better movie is utterly beyond me.
Civil war is potentially a better movie until the grinding, final, ridiculous, not as believable, or as fun to watch, as the makers clearly thought it would be, never ending and improbable fight scene, where 2 men not made of metal, try to and do, "punch out" an Iron man.

That said 10/10 for winter soldier is seriously ott, in the fullness of time, it's not likely to be seen as good or better, than All the presidents men.

If you score it based on the improvement over the first captain movie (first avenger) then it has legs, but it's no better/but at least different to, "The avengers".
Lets just say the entire MCU at this point, is somewhere around the 8/10s as are the better of the DC movies, including Nolan's.

My Mrs wants to see that but I've not checked out any reviews yet. I'll chalk up one in the good column to get things started.

In other news, I watched Philadelphia last night. I've not seen it before. It was good. Solid performances from Denzel Washington and Tom Hanks, both very reliable. Quite moving.

The first two of Nolan's batman films are, I reckon, better than any of the marvel films. I reckon Iron Man is the best, but even then the end tails off a bit.

Its all hair splittery, Batman begins had potential but ends in a hokey cheese fest train/ big fight scenario, the Dark Knight like most of Nolan's movies is 20mins too long and (unlike others) a narrative jumble! Frankly Im not convinced Burtons batman isn't better but in any case none of this cack is classic and in the case of Marvel none even vaguely approaches the quality of the source! For me bunch of 8/10s! Many people can score them higher, many people thought Bad Boys was quality action!

Bored so watched hobbit again today.

I mean the winter soldier was a damn good movie. Better then civil war for me. Guardian of galaxy 1 for me was awesome but i didnt go in with high expectations, so it really surprised me how good it was. Nolans The dark knight though trumps them personally.

I don't think it's a 10/10, I just think it's the best MCU film.

The Dark Knight is a 9/10 though, if you ignore Bales batvoice.

The Batvoice, Batman walking about in a well lit swanky apartment being all kinds of wrong and the whole thing simultaneously feeling like it goes on too long (A Nolan special) and has too much going on.

I guess like most people around my age, I rate it in the 8's, along with virtually the entire MCU, give them another decade or two and they'll likely all trend downwards from there.

The Dark Knight is deffo the best super hero film... I remember seeing it on the opening day and there being genuine gasps and laughs of nervous shock during the joker scenes... particularly that pencil trick! Was absolutely revitting and the ending was great.

Wasn't too fussed with the first and third in that series.

Begins 7/10
Dark Knight 9/10
BAIIIiiinnnn 7/10

Outside of those, I think Gaurdians of the Galaxy was the best. If we are restricting it to well known super heroes, then it would probably go to the first Iron Man film.
