What film did you watch last night?

I saw Interstellar twice at the cinema, I actually enjoyed it both times.

Terminator
Blade Runner
2001
Alien
Moon
The Abyss

I could go...all far superior than BR 2049 and interstellar

I don’t deny those are good sci fi but I believe 2049 and also Interstellar will be seen in a better light than you think in 30 years.

*before you rant about stupid this and that in what movie, I’m not claiming they are perfect, very few movies are for me but I still put them up there, better than a lot movies these days and at least Interstellar is an original and not a remake.

It was just trying to be clever and it failed...unlike Inception which was ace.

Dunkirk. - 2.5/10

I was expecting some atmospheric historically correct window on the on the Dunkirk evacuations of 1940 with some drama to drive the story. In the same sort of vein as band of brothers, with a British twist.

Unfortunately is was dull as dishwater from start to finish, none of the characters were remotely engaging bar the skipper of the little boat. The sound track was dire and the narrative just poor. Only parts that held my interest were the Spitfire skirmishes and they weren't brilliant either. I wanted it to be sentimental and flag waving in the same way that The Battle of Britain, 1969 film was. You knew what the film was within 30 seconds of the soundtrack starting and actually cared if the cast survived!!!

Still actually watching this at the moment on TV and to be fair, I've rated it on here before. However, its one of, if not THE favourite film of mine, so I'm rating it again whilst the advert break is on.

The Thing.

Just one of my top movies, its near perfection imo. From the great characters, the brilliant portrayal of paranoia, the utterly superbly fitting yet simplistic score, to the excellent ambiguous ending and the terrific special effects which have wonderfully stood the test of time despite the film being 35 years old.

10/10

Rogue One - 8.5/10

Now this is a Star Wars film. Really encapsulates the power of the Empire, the determination of the rebellion and moral conflict of the 'good' guys. The ending scene with Vader is probably one of the greatest of the series.

When you see it in Blu-ray and notice the doctor had a nose ring

Edit - or was that an ear ring... can’t remember!

Molly’s Game.

This year I’m going to use my Odeon Limitless card as often as I possibly can and it started today with Molly’s Game, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Good film ! Not sure how accurate it stuck to the truth but it is a hell of a story and quite a movie.

2 and a half hours FLEW by, in fact, when I got out and looked at my watch I was surprised what time it was. It was an 8pm showing, I thought I would be out before 10….I got out at 10:42pm! Yet it felt much faster.

Justice League

Pros
1. I liked steppenwolf he was not weak or a clown like in the cartoon (only time ive seen him before)
2. Aquaman was good they made him interesting.
3. We had Wonder woman before this which gave us some history on wonder woman making her more interesting, also gal gadot's acting has improve since then ( I thought she had a few issues in wonder woman).
4. The first scene with superman.

Cons
1. A little too much CGI,
2. Rushed, DC's big problem is they rush too much and are not trying to build anything up, maybe they should have made a trilogy fixing problems in both movies (BvS1 BvS2? JL), they should have build up the character a bit, they have some of the best character but just waste them, dropping them in and hope for the best, trying to rush in catching up to marvel.
3. A little too dark and dull,
4. flash, cyborg and even aquaman could have done with a little more build up

I dont think its as bad as some people say but i cant connect to the new DC movies.

I’m sure it was drama’d up as all “true story” films are, but if Player X is only doubly exaggerated then Toby Maguire is one hell of a douche :D

Dunkirk 7/10. I really enjoyed this. There's a great, slightly trippy, fever-dream atmosphere of being trapped and helpless through out the whole movie. Thanks largely to the score, lack of dialogue, and how it's told through a few connected personal experiences rather than looking at the larger picture. While quite different, it reminded me of The Thin Red Line.
