What film did you watch last night?

Borg McEnroe - worth a watch for tennis fans.

Shia LaBeouf is good as McEnroe, and Sverrir Gudnason is Borg plus the tennis is enjoyable and the insight into Borg's character is interesting. My only issue is that the camera seemed to be a tad shaky on occasion and it almost nausea inducing at the strangest times.

The Commuter (2018) - 5.5/10

Strangers on a train with some classic Neeson. Convincing performances from most, but parts of the story are pretty far fetched.

Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri - 9/10

Barely anyone else in the cinema other than my fianceé and me, but this was really something special IMO. It's the best movie I've seen at the cinema since Blade Runner 2049 - obviously completely different.

I'd not seen the trailer but I knew it was getting some Oscar buzz and good reviews. I went in cold, only knowing a very brief synopsis which occurs in the first 5 minutes of the movie. I think it's the best way to see it so I don't want to delve to much in to the bones of it, other than to say the performances throughout were all fantastic and it's really worth a watch if you get a chance. It's in turns both funny and tragic. I'd give it 10/10 but there was one or two plot contrivances.*

*For those that have seen it
After the argument, the daughter walks out saying "I hope I get raped" and the mother in anger says "I hope you get raped too"....and she happens to get raped? I know the film doesn't explicitly say that happened on the same day/night but that was the inference.

It was shocking to hear the mother say it, but what were the chances it would happen?

I also saw Jumanji: Welcome to the jungle the day before, and though it was an entertaining diversion, i'd probably only give it 6.5/10.

Coco (2018) - 8/10

A bright and vibrant adventure with superb animation, catchy songs, and colourful companions.

The story is good enough and has strong morals, but the film jumps about tonally and is a bit too formulaic overall.

Enjoyable and entertaining, but I thought the locations could have been more imaginative and spectacular.

Wind River - 3/10

Really can't see why this has garnered such rave reviews in some places. Played like a drawn out episode of Longmire, except Longmire is about 10x better.

Slow one paced plod, with mumbled dialogue for much of the movie by characters who are never developed or who you even care about. One brief bit of action with a shootout but by then I'd lost interest.
And it seemed a case of the story going nowhere so let's just pluck these guys out of thin air and make them the antagonists, or we'll be here all night.

I'm not averse to this type of "western" crime drama, both Fargo and No Country For Old Men are prime examples of how it should be done.

Rental job at best, or wait for Sky Movies/Now TV or Netflix.

Metropolis. It’s a German black and white silent film from 1926 about the evils of industrialisation. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

But really... It’s ok, it’s just a bit mental. Weird intense faces and silent movie acting and the relentless score. Biblical imagery out the arse. Mind you, there’s some properly visionary stuff in there - video phones! In 1926!!

The latest release is also cobbled together from a variety of prints as large chunks were lost over time, so some bits are in perfectly good nick and other bits look like they were shot in glorious technipotato.

Thor Ragnarok - 4/10

What a load of crap.
Just watched it. ( I guess people start watching the same thing when decent copies come out huh)
Me and the Mrs like it. Love GoTG and Deadpool and can see why a smart executive used those successes to steer this picture to a comedy theme. Iron Man 3 sucked cause it was the 3rd time I'd seen the same ****. This was good as it was different new and funny. Plus the director being a hilarious rock character gets it some plus point. 7.5-8/10 and I dont give out point lightly. Seriously.

Thor Ragnarok - 4/10

What a load of crap.

I'd give it a 5/10, only persevered cause cate blanchett. So many jokes... there are some good ones in there but they lost the run of themselves. Thought i was watching a 'scary movie' take on Thor it was so relentless. Sadly seems to be direction they are going with Marvel franchise

Molly's game 6/10. It was ok, interesting story but really disliked the style, incessant narration over fast cuts. Just feels like it's trying too hard or something.
