What film did you watch last night?

I went and plonked myself down to watch The Call of the Wild on my own last night as the GF and her mate went to watch Emma at the same time and I just didn't fancy it...

Any way, TCofW was a real feel good film with the odd dust in the eye moments. I just love watching Harrison Ford though, shame he isn't in this more as he was probably the best character bar the CGI dog. To be fair the CGI wasn't bad, but it was still very noticeable.

Dark Waters (2020) - 4/10

Although it’s shocking what the big companies try (and can) get away with, I found this film quite boring with its slow pace and chronological presentation of the events. I guess that’s legal proceedings for you.

Some very good acting and I’m glad exposure pieces like this are being made, but it wasn’t very entertaining.

Felt the same, it's like ellen brockovich with none of the characters that make it interesting.

Uncut Gems 8/10

im exhausted after watching it, my God. I feel like it’s a little predictable but I quite enjoyed that. I thought the music was great.

A stressful film, the release at the end was quite big.

Sandler was on fire

Exactly my sentiments. A good movie but the pace, wow! :D

Parasite - 7/10

Quite an odd movie I thought. Some bits of light humour, an interesting story and I wasn't bothered by the subs all the way through. Just seemed quite an odd ending, I'm not sure what I'm supposed to make of it I guess?

The Invisible Man (2020) - 8/10

A modern version of the classic horror story this time focusing on the madness of the victim rather than the invisible man.

The plot is well thought out and the special effects / action scenes are well put together and it successfully builds up the tension and suspense before going for the physical violence.

Great performance from Moss and good use of camera shots to add to the atmosphere, but is a bit long overall and the surprises aren’t that surprising.

Saw it last night and I pretty much agree with your verdict. I think they missed one or two tricks that could have elevated it to classic status, but as is, it's a solid thriller. I really enjoyed the camera work in the first two thirds of the movie, with eerie periods of quiet and lingering shots of empty negative spaces ratcheting up her paranoia and our tension! Enjoyable stuff up until the more action-orientated climax. And even then, while not as impactful as the rest of the movie, it didn't detract from the overall experience.

Uncut Gems

This movie was so odd. Its hard to say. Its not an enjoyable movie, but at the same time I couldn't take my eyes from the screen. Adam Sandlers performance was just incredible

The main character is infuriating. The movie is outright stressful to watch. Everytime he makes one bad decision he then follows it up with an even worse one. Its just...mind boggling.

Well well worth a watch :)

Just watched this. I'm with you aside the 'couldn't take my eyes off' and 'well worth a watch'. It's actually an annoying film to watch as far as I'm concerned. The ending was a bit of a relief I guess, Ratner was just such a ****. I would probably go a 4/10.

I've seen a few recently...

Terminator: Dark Fate.
Really disappointing. I saw a few reviews suggesting Best Since T2 but I have to disagree. Just a bit boring with lots of idiotic decisions. Worst of the franchise for me.

Gemini Man
Was genuinely bored. I like Will Smith mostly but he was treading water. CGI Will Smith was pretty good sometimes but mega uncanny valley throughout. Lazy ending.

Booksmart
Loved it. Like Superbad (not quite as gross-out) and other coming of age comedies. Both of the main actresses were excellent and really felt for them. Brilliant supporting cast too. Quite a few genuine lols which is fairly rare if I'm watching a film alone. - standout lol scene when the girls are watching g+g action (for educational reasons!) on the phone in the taxi and the driver puts the audio through the speakers. So juvenile but so funny. :D

Terminator - Dark Fate, 6/10

It was a good action movie but essentially (without posting spoilers) a complete retcon of the whole franchise from T2 onwards. Okay maybe T5 should have been taken out as that also retconned John Connor to be born 30 years after his original birth date, but T3 and T4 were okay. Essentially they've done to the Terminator story what Abrams has done to Star Trek.

...snip

I mean, it's not amazing, but it's surely the best of the series after the first 2 lol, it's a low bar.

Once upon a time in Hollywood - 6/10

Although it seemed a bit meandering and directionless at times, QT has a fantastic ability of being able to create characters and write dialogue, that draws the audience in. Also, the Bruce Lee scene was hilarious.
