What film did you watch last night?

6 Underground - A Ryan Reynolds action movie directed by Michael Bay that does exactly what it says on the tin. Joyously over the top car chases, bullets flying in every direction and GBFO explosions.

Perfect brain-off entertainment after a couple of beers, though the acting makes Keanu Reeves look like De Niro and the plot is simple enough for a goldfish to follow.

7/10

The Invisible Man - absolutely loved this tense, taut thriller that is a great reboot of the old classic. 9/10.

utterly silly and yet utterly fun - the magnet 'thing' was just all sorts of daft! thoroughly enjoyed it the other evening when i watched it and hoping they do another.

The Wandering Earth (2019) - 7/10

A disaster movie of epic proportions where everything has been taken to beyond extravagant. The sheer spectacle of the unique concept and the design of the futuristic machines is worthy of praise alone and although some of the special effects sequences are a bit weak, the overall style and presentation are mostly superb.

The plot isn’t that great and stumbles in the middle, which isn’t helped by the cheesy dialogue and stereotypical characters, but it does get a lot more entertaining and exciting towards the end.

Togo. This is a Disney film that was released last year. Chris Stuckmann mentioned it in his review of 'Call of the wild' as being as better film. My wife and daughter certainly enjoyed it. They asked how long the film was as it didn't seem to have been on for even an hour. They'd been watching for an hour and three quarters.
I didn't watch it but keep popping in and out of the room and the cinematography and scenery are beautiful. The girls loved the dogs. The use of real dogs instead of CGI really added to it.

GBFO explosions?

Dark Waters - 7/10

I enjoyed it, and it was really well made, but it just felt a bit too long - probably didn't help that the seats in Cineworld weren't great, leg room was naff and we could clearly hear another film going on next door!

Would like to watch it again when it comes out on DVD/BluRay and see if it's any better in my home environment.

The Invisible Man....mmmm meeehhhh?

It was alright :) - I didn't find it painful to watch and the jump bits did make me jump. However disappointing with that the majority of the shocking bits were in the trailer itself and then some bits of the trailer were not in the actual film either.

It was ok :) - forgettable though I think. Worth waiting to see this at home IMO.

The Invisible Man.

The above 6/10 seems to be pretty fair. It was OK. I liked the way the suit worked (though It didn't really make sense) but other than that? Pretty average. Only gave it a score above average for the two deaths. Some bits were quite obvious to see coming.

I don't really care for thrillers and only went as the other half wanted to see it.

Next up: A Quiet Place Part 2.

Parasite

Thought it was engaging but nothing special. I find it hard to see why it got so much praise.

6/10
I think it's more the undertones, suggestions of various things relating to our society as a whole. Also the performances were faultless imo and the structure was incredibly well done.

e: It was also beautifully shot and directed

1917

Not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't this.

I was probably hoping for an epic war movie, but got a buddy movie.

Would be cheaper to make and produce than a full blown war film, I guess.

It was OK, but won't be watching it again.

6/10

Next up: A Quiet Place Part 2.

Already booked for the 1st day. My Odeon has just finished an upgrade to Lux Seating in all screens and Screen 1, which is showing A Quiet Place 2, is now an iSense screen with Dolby Atmos. Of course if it’s as quiet as the first film then Dolby Atmos won’t be that important.

The Fellowship of the Ring.

I saw the trilogy at the cinema when first released but I don't think I've watched any completely all the way through since, because these days I find them a little too child-like in places.

I got a fair way into the story but nope, not for me nowadays. I loved the films when they were originally released though.

Joker 7/10

Good film, not what I was expecting somehow but excellently filmed, good performance from Phoenix but it did feel a bit stretched out in places.

Certainly worth watching though.

The Interview (2014) - 6/10

Crazy and funny, they look like they had a lot of fun making this movie.

The humour is silly, crass and a bit cringey at times being mostly laddish in nature, and the leads are very entertaining throughout the straightforward plot.

I can see why it was controversial (I mean, who wants a movie that bluntly insults them to be shown to the world?), but it would have had more relevance if more of the content was based on fact.
