What film did you watch last night?

The Gentlemen

Never heard of this film until today and it was basically Guy Ritchie being Guy Ritchie film. Actually quite liked Hugh Grant in this and McConaughey was just himself without any extraordinary performance. Decent enough plot and action so quite entertaining.

Can't say I was digging Hunnam though.

7/10

Can't believe The Platform is dubbed, only just got Netflix yesterday and was going out of my mind wondering why the audio was out of sync!

That's a relief.

The film was good, I just don't understand the ending at all.

You can just switch it back to Spanish audio and watch it with subtitles, I tried the dub for the first 10 minutes but switched to original language which I preferred.

It's deliberately one of those open endings but the whole film has these capitalistic undertones throughout so probably just a message that only the young can chance the system. The main character was too damaged to be normal again.

the Gentlemen last night, 6.5/10 decent enough but not a patch on Snatch/lock Stock. Hugh grant the high point, Matthew M disapointed especially after some of his recent performances (True Detective).

Agreed, but i'd go 7/10. I thought Grant and Farrell were excellent and as much as people slate him, i thought Hunnam was also very good - a bit too clean cut for a gangster, but got his hands dirty when needed.

Not the best Guy Ritchie movie, but definitely worth a watch.

Bad boys for life 6.5/10
This movie cheered me up.

I'm not sure if its because im a fan and im looking at it through rose tinted glasses but this is much better than what I expected, I was expecting it to be another cash grab and not caring about the movie or the fans like a lot of other movies (MIB 4) it did a lot right .

I'm glad the captain is also back im not sure it would be the same without him, Some fan service like reggie.
Great camera work and editing, just look at the part switching between mike and marcus, It has the feel and flow of a bad boys movie.

Downside the villeins are not as remediable as in the other movies and other then the blond guy no one in the ammo team seam to have any personality, the girl from high school musical is in it but even after getting so many good movies she still cant seam to act. they could have just got anyone off the streets and it would have been the same, kind of like when they put new guys in expendables 3, could have done with a few Marcus and Mike moments

The last 1/3 of the movie is a little flat no build up nothing big like the other movies do I had to reduce my score.

over all I really enjoyed it.

Vivarium 7/10
Very weird and disturbing film this. You can't really take your eyes off it though. Not even sure what genre it is, kind of existential mystery horror film. Definitely worth a watch.

call of the wild...wasn’t expecting much...but strangely I connected with a cgi dog :p

Big dog fan so I’m probably a tad bias...but I enjoyed it...6.75/10 :p
If you can, watch 'Togo'. It's on Disney+ and is based on a true story, has real dogs in it (no weird Scooby-Doo mutt here), Willem Dafoe is excellent and it's really good.

Star Wars Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace
Not seen in donkeys but just got the UHD collection. Not as bad as I remember it and looks and sounds great now it has Atmos and HDR.

Only 8 more to go.

I watched "The platform" on netflix, a spanish horror movie but with english language option for audio that just released on netflix
8/10 one of the best horror movies I've seen in a long time

The Hole is structured vertically with two people per floor. Once a day, a platform makes its way from Floor 1, down to the very bottom. Floor 1 gets first dibs on a beautiful spread of food that includes just about every delicacy imaginable. Then Floor 2 gets Floor 1’s leftovers. And then Floor 3 gets what’s left of that, and then Floor 4, and so on. Not a bad arrangement for the folks higher up, but just imagine if you’re stuck on Floor 100. Making the matter even more nerve-racking is the fact that every 30 days, inmates are moved to a different floor. So you might be living the good life on Floor 6 one month, but then don’t get anything to eat on Floor 134 the next.

Yeh, I thought this was one of the better horror movies of recent times. Cleverly done on a low budget, good acting and with a bit of depth to the story. Sure it could have been fleshed out a bit and the ending was a bit of a letdown, but overall a cracking little film.

I do find that the best horror films tend to be of foreign origin. Spanish and Korean ones can be particularly good. The American Hollywood stuff is just full of cliché, bad CGI and obnoxious characters.

The Platform (Netflix)

Jesus not a film to watch at 7am while on your indoor bike, shortly after eating breakfast!

A really weird film, and one where you're constantly thinking 'where can this film possibly go, or how can it end?'

Can't really rate it as I honestly don't know what to think of it!

If you think the platform is weird, you should try vivarium :D

Dark Fate 7/10

Rented this on the Xbox last night. Wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. It was better than the previous 3 movies. No need to mention the first two movies as no Terminator movie is ever going to be that good again.
