What film did you watch last night?

Soul (Pixar)

A truly amazing movie, such a helluva shame it's not getting the chance to have a full theatrical release because if ever a movie deserved to be seen on the big screen by as wide an audience as possible, it's soul, the animation is flawless, & the story which could so easily have drifted into the arena of the saccharine sweet or maudlin managed to stay deft & as light as a feather, definitely Pixar at it's very finest.

10/10

Soul (Pixar)

I only have one verrrry minor nitpick that made me pull a face:

... the hippy meditator people were just out of place and a misstep.

A real treat this film, one to watch.

You talking about the ship captain or those running the "you seminars"? I thought they were both good! A good explanation on how to contact the spirit world and how beings come into existence.

Potential plot hole?

The cat! We see Joe jump into the cats body and then the cat on the escalator going into the light. But in the subway, Joe gets back into his own body and the cat jumps up and runs to his owner - whose soul is in the cat? I'm happy if the cat got to come back, but i don't recall seeing this happening or been explained.

But great movie - kids sat through it without a murmur, so must have been good!

WW1984

Was planning on watching this tonight, so really disappointed with the comments here :(

Ship captain annoyed me, even thought the sign swirling was amusing.

I think you are overthinking the cat thing, it just got returned to normal. It doesn’t really make sense how he got in there in the first place! Just take it that the human soul shunted out the cat soul temporarily :)

Wonder Woman '84 - 4/10 - Well that was worse than I was hoping for sadly as I quite enjoyed the first Gadot WW film (7/10). Other than the onscreen chemistry between Gadot and Pine, which is still absolutely fantastic and almost the only good thing in this film, literally nothing else worked for me.

Terrible story, poor acting from capable stars due to a poor script and/or direction, a second "super powered" baddie created solely as someone for WW to fight in a 3rd act full of awful CGI (similar to first WW film TBF), CGI generally which was bad in so very many places through-out the entire film (literally youtube channels like Corridor Crew have done better work), Zimmerman's music falling flat (maybe a first?), around 30 mins too long and far too many "new" WW abilities which were created just for this film yet break canon in chronologically later films like Justice League.

There are a few scenes which are good, whether they're action based or emotional, but 5-10 minutes of good can't undo so much poor work for me - considering the year delay to polish things it's amazing to me that this film is still so shoddy looking, thats just beyond belief at this point.

The post credit scene with the wink was a nice touch, however I've no idea how many people under 40 will even get the reference without being told who it is by the media first so maybe a bit of waste for "new" fans (a bit like Stan Lee/Marvel in that respect).

The Rifleman (2019) - 8/10

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6084202/?ref_=fn_al_tt_2

It came on Sky Cinema (can still get it there on demand I believe) and was surprised to see it, well I actually heard it first as it is in the Latvian language which I understand quite well. Similar in topic to the film 1917 though from another angle but excellently shot, following the journey of the young man through the great war.

Well I watched Wonder Woman 1984 ... I didn't think it was as bad as some, it was definitely mediocre but I find a lot of these kinda movies are so it didn't really stand out as being exceptionally bad... I will say that both Gal Gadot's and Kristen Wiig's final form was cheesy as hell, and I guess the ending in general.

Midnight Sky...meh

Something happens to the earth to make the air toxic but unless i dozed off for a moment it's not explained what. The closest i can remember the only "explanation" you got about this was Clooney telling the Astronauts "we screwed up the planet" when they were coming back.

They didn't specify what it was (deliberately)
