What film did you watch last night?

The Midnight Sky - 7/10. Fairly enjoyed that but I'll watch anything with Clooney in and probably enjoy it.

Gilbert - 10/10. Documentary about Gilbert Gottfried from a couple of years back. Total oddball, but very funny and I found the whole thing really moving.

Just re-re-re-watched Deep Impact. Still my favourite disaster movie of all time. 9/10.

The plot -- for a movie -- is pretty solid, and it manages to have both a happy and totally miserable ending. The most miserable bit about it though is that when it first came out, I fancied Téa Leoni something rotten. Now she's way too young for me in the movie but her Mum looks marvellous. Not that a Redgrave has ever not looked marvellous, but... tempus fugit.

The Drop (2014) 8/10

I thought this was about an armed heist (nope) so disappointed to not see any sawn off's. Shows how the Eastern Block Mafia control and launder money, very highly recommended watch. You can see how Tom Hardy could play the part of Bond - talking of which...

Spectre (2015) 7/10

Second time watch and enjoyed it more this time, still has one of the greatest fight scenes in a Bond film ever, up there with From Russia With Love and Diamonds.

The film has many flaws, and could have been better with some simple fixes (given the budget). Basic one, Bond moves from country to country and has a designer wardrobe but... no overnight / suitcase. Silly stuff, but its Bond.

I'm tempted to check out Aquaman now. What's so bad about it? Plot? Acting?
Thoughts I’d add my 2p.

First, as a more minor and less fatal issue....crap superhero? Unless you are really into this genre the name of the film will immediately set your disbelief dial to 11. Aquaman. Aqua-man. He’s from the sea!!!!!

The we have I think Nicole Kidman in one of the most plastic roles ever, in all senses. Sticks out like a sore thumb.

A more major flaw for me (by superhero standards) is the completely jarring switch of tone. It starts out played quite straight. Once act 2 begins, it all becomes a bit silly and more jovial, at the point when the stakes are raised. I’m not sure whether the serious bits are too serious or the silly bits were too silly.

As with any superhero film, it’s way, way, way, way, way too long. Obnoxiously so. There is no need for these films to be so long!!!

Lastly, a lot of people didn’t like the ridiculous visuals, but they delighted me with their absurdity, particularly the climax of the film.

In summary then, a film which requires an enormous amount of disbelief to begin with blows it by having a mixed tone and being too long.

I watched a few films the last two nights.

Can you ever forgive me ?
True story about a writer down on her luck who turns to forgery to make ends meet. Not bad. Good acting. Not really my type of film but enjoyable. 6/10

Unhinged
Good movie containing a steady stream of action as we see how a normal day can turn into your worst nightmare when you cross paths with a psychopath. Similar to the Michael Douglas movie Falling Down. 7/10

The Dark Tower
OK movie. Seems like it may appeal to a younger audience. Good watch where you don't need to think too much. I like both main actors, Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey. Interesting to see Mr McConaughey playing the evil villain. 6/10

I started watching Aquaman and felt it was made in the same style as that TV show about super humans living on the moon then they came down to earth (forget the name)
So I turned it off. but you have to laugh about being adults and still talking and moaning about comic books and super hero movies huh?

Did a Weinstein double bill, revisited Inglourious ******** and Django Unchained.

Inglourious ********: I remember liking this movie on initial viewing but didn't like it much this time around. I found the pacing off and most characters rather flat. Christoph Waltz is the star of the show and the ending is disappointing.

5/10

Django Unchained: Christoph Waltz and Leonardo DiCaprio is just phenomenal. Storytelling on this is on point, not a dull moment. Would rated it higher but the final act did get a bit silly for my liking.

8/10

My wife and I watched this just night too. I haven't read the Dark Tower books so I wasn't bothered about whether or not it follows those. Good performances (even the kid), cool looking characters, easy to follow storyline and quite pacey. A pleasant enough way to spend 1.5 hours.
