What film did you watch last night?

The Babysitter (2017) - 6/10

A fun and enjoyable take on the slasher genre.

It presents the setting and lead characters well with its suburban American style, but there isn’t much of a plot and although it has some surprises, the deaths aren’t very inventive.

Gory and humorous with an entertaining cast of characters, but it’s never scary or shocking.

No. Poor logic.
Have you watched the movie? Do you understand it? What makes you think in this way?
i watched the preview you posted, that was enough for me. looks like a romantic drama, the type of film that my partner would be interested in.

Very weird. From the preview, I wouldn't judge for the gender preferences - I would say the opposite - it is targeted at young men, not young women. Or in the worst case, equally for both genders.

i wouldn't call a romantic drama a chick flick. but that's maybe just me. just because it has a romantic element to it doesn't automatically make it a chick flick.
My missus, who loves Romcoms, Chick Flicks etc, says this film is a Chick Flick and as she is an authority on everything, (according to her) I'm not going to argue with that. ;)

If you watch the first minute of the preview you linked then I would agree, though if you watch the whole 2min30 then you should come away with the fact that it is a Drama/Romance; precisely what it is classified as on IMDb.

Comedies like Legally Blonde would be described as "chick flicks".
This is quite different.

Watch the movie. The preview doesn't reveal it.
And then judge.

No. A 'chick flick' just has to involve 'Love & Romance'. It can also include either Comedy or Drama but the defining characteristic is 'Love and Romance'.

I don't think so. A chick flick is something feminine, describing the daily lives of women, that will be liked by and targeted at women.

Conjuring 2 - Enfield 7/10

Been watching the Conjuring movies ready for No.3 coming out today. This one isn’t bad but while based on real events, the fact it was pretty much debunked as a hoax makes some of the more extreme story elements a bit incongruous. The tatty council house is a real Tardis job, too. Average UK semi on the outside but inside the rooms are huge and as for the basement…

My favourite in the series is still probably The Nun, that was genuinely scary.

The Babysitter: Killer Queen (2020) - 8/10

More of the same but a lot more silly and slapstick with even more gore and funnier deaths.

The style is great, the setting is beautiful and used well and the plot is better, but not by much.

The new characters aren’t that interesting, but the old cast are fun to watch and overall, it’s very entertaining.

Shang Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings - 8/10
Enjoyed this a lot, definitely one of the better MCU films. Some great action scenes, particularly earlier on when it’s more martial acts focussed and the main characters are a lot more fleshed out than a lot of the usual MCU fair.

I'm yet to see the 2nd conjuring but I loved the first one!

Usually sequels are disappointing which is why I've dragged my feet in seeing it.

I hope I at least like it when I get around to it!
