What film did you watch last night?

Cameo from Alice? Why? This was meant to be based on the actual game, not the garbage Hollywood movies with the same name. Alice wasn't in the games, why should she be in this movie or why do you feel a link would be a good thing?

Yeah I also believe this is a clean reboot, ignoring the PWS Anderson movies, however I haven't finished this yet as it's so bad, not sure i'll return to it. I can see it's wonderfully faithful to the game in parts, the casting is awful though and it just doesn't make a good movie.

I'd rather rewatch the first Jovovich movie again than finish Racoon City at this point.

Moonfall - Oh Dear/10

I love disaster movies, I like other stuff Emmerich has done Independence Day of course, 2012 brilliant! and if this was a Sharknado B movie level of film then I think I'd have given it a score at least, but it's not, and I can't.

It was just truly truly dreadful! :D A complete rip off of so many other movies/themes, the opening sequence was a carbon copy of Gravity for example. But the script, oh the script....for the first third of the film I was laughing and thought this is in the category of so bad it's good.....by the end of the film I was just crying because I realised that no, it was just so bad

Resident Evil - Welcome to Racoon City - 4/10.

Some retconning with a half hearted attempt to tell the backstory of Chris and Claire Redfield, plus Wesker and Leon. The story which was supposed to parallel the events taking place underground in The Hive during the first movie never really gelled and it would have been nice if they could have given "Alice" at least a cameo at some point during the movie, to cement the link.

What? No it's not.

This movie is a reboot and completely unrelated to the Jovovich trash.

It's faithful to the actual game, unlike all the other live action movies that have come before.

The last couple of movies I watched:

American Pie 2 (2001)

Again, not as good as I'd remembered - in fact there are many moments of pure cringe, but I got through it. Not sure I'll bother with the rest, though. 2/5

The Jewel Of The Nile (1985)

I had a VHS copy of this as a lad. I couldn't have re-watched* it many times, as I couldn't recall anything about the plot. Not as good as "Romancing The Stone", but not a bad movie. 2½/5

* I also owned "Back To The Future" which I must have re-watched every week.:o

I happen to like the Alice movies, each to their own I guess.
However I do agree after doing a bit of research that "Welcome..." was more related to the games (which I admit to never having played) and the retcon if anything was done by the original movies. Just a shame the lighting was so dark.

I enjoy them too, although they went downhill mostly with each new movie and characters are there in name only - not faithful to the game lore or storyline.

WT Racoon City was, but didn't have the budget or decent actors/writing - was still a fun watch for me though :)

So, finally got to see it .... D U N E

Honestly not sure what to score it? The standard fight scenes and Rebecca Ferguson crying all the way through just grated, but the 'Blade Runner 2049' homages were good, if not exactly original.

6? 8? ok i'll go 7/10

The Irishman. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1302006/

This is the second time I've seen it and like the first, I enjoyed it quite a lot.

I don't find it to be a truly great experience but overall still very enjoyable for the most part.

Viewing for the second time resulted in me appreciating digital technology (nips 'n tucks) more than the first time. Quite convincing.

It just goes to show that the type of life depicted in this isn't one to favour, as ultimately, chickens come home to roost.

Had been a long time since I watched it, but got round to it last night, irreversible.

man it’s brutal, but if you can handle subtitles then it’s a must. You won’t forget this film, 100% guaranteed.

8/10

Red Dawn (1984) - 7/10

It is the dawn of World War III. In the west mountains of America, a group of teenagers band together to defend their town, and their country, from invading Soviet forces.

Threads (1984) - 8/10

The effects of a nuclear holocaust on the working class city of Sheffield, England and the eventual long-term effects of nuclear war on civilization.

Death on the Nile (2022) - 6/10

A serviceable murder mystery which was never boring but never really engrossed or thrilled me either.

It’s visually spectacular with dramatic scenery and music, but the story was somewhat lacking, even with the heartfelt ‘origins of Poirot’ start.

The characters are all well rounded and well-acted and Poirot’s performance was very entertaining, but the big reveal didn’t quite match the build-up, which in turn was all over the place.

You know they're directed by the same person, right? Though Denis does not seem like the kind of director who strokes over himself and would reference his own work in a completely unrelated story, so it's probably more likely just a similar looking shot because, well, it's the same mind behind them both.

Anyway, I watched Spencer. Incredible performance by Kristen Stewart; the likeness and mannerisms were uncanny. I am in 2 minds about the story itself though. I know it opens with "a fable from a true tragedy", so it shouldn't be taken literally, and I know very little Hollywood biopics are 100% true to actual events, but going to the trouble of getting Kristen to emulate Diana - a real historical person - so well, but then fabricating all these events in the movie, some of which are very out there and some not particularly flattering, feels almost disrespectful? Just, people trying to be "creative" and take liberty with a real person's inner thoughts and demons, especially when that person is no longer with us to comment on it, feels kind of wrong.

That aside though, I would give it an 8/10.

The King's Man - 7/10.

Nice origin of the Kingsman secret organisation and although it took a while to get going, there were some good set pieces. Although the ending became a bit of a cliche - Ralph Fiennes is knocking on a bit irl and in the movie, yet was running up mountains and battling like a 20 year old - total taken out of the movie moments!

I'm not really a fan of Rhys Ifans, but i only realised it was him when the credits rolled - he was brilliant as Rasputin.

Now..............
why did they feel the need to kill off Conrad? Were they forced to do this as his death was referenced in the movies? It hurt on 2 counts, 1. Dad promised his wife to keep him out of war - failed. 2. He was a good character and it would have been good to see him in the next movie taking on an agent role, building the Kingsman shop etc. We built him up so much and in a fleeting second - gone :(

I know it could be said that his death drove Ralph to create the Kingsmen, but there was already enough evidence for this to happen without the death being needed.

The King's Man - disappointing origin story of Kingsman. The two modern films were good fun and didn't take themselves seriously, this one wasn't and did. It was interesting due to the actual historic events taking place and some of the war scenes. 2/5
