What film did you watch last night?

Yellowbeard - 3/10 kind of the last monty python film (all the python cast but not really a monty film?) but this fails hard, only a few good one liners - "tell me where the map is or I'll nail your boobs to the table" etc - but mainly tosh unfortunately which is a shame.

Just got back from watching Salt.

Starts a little aimless, soon as the film gets a purpose and you know a little about whats what, everything that wasn't griping you in the first chase or two kicks in.

Turns in to a realy good film, a good lower score of 8.

Full Metal Jacket

It's as if the film is divided in two halves, the training camp and the Vietnam scenes.

I think the training camp scenes are executed perfectly but the actual war scenes leave a lot to be desired. The sniper scene is just beyond stupid. There are so many times when you question the actions of the characters, there's no way they can be that stupid!

7/10 For me, S.Kubrick is an overrated director.

You make statements like this based on misunderstandings of his feature films?

The whole essence of full metal jacket is to highlight the stupidity of war.

What other films that he has directed have you seen?

The amount of people trying to be knowledgeable about film and failing miserably is laughable in this thread.

By all means don't like a film but making crass statements to try and sound clever is just a joke!

Watched excaliber last night on TV and thought it was utterly garbage. Was amazingly disjointed, filled with awful acting.

A generous 3/10

Tonight I'm watching ju-on: the grudge (aka the japanese original of the grudge) which I'm in high hopes about!

Earlier I watched outlander, film about a humanoid crash landing on earth in roughly dark age britain and bringing an alien monster with it, who the locals believe is a dragon. He then has to gain their trust and kill the monster before it destroys the small settlement of people he comes to feel at home with. Very good film, superb effects

10/10

Goldeneye and Tremors : 90s childhood nostalgia time!

Just got a bit carried away on youtube (Yes I watched two whole films on youtube haha) James Bond is way more sexist and arrogant than I remember, its great! I wish I still had my N64 now... music is so atmospheric...

Tremors was good also, haven't seen that in yonks either, a good light hearted thriller, special effects still look good too.

Salt - 8/10 - Cracking film with some brilliant action scenes
Transformers 2 - 5/10 - Good CGI but average story. How can 5-8 giant robots not obliterate two people?!
Galaxy Quest - 8/10 - Cheesy as anything but for some reason i love it :D
Crank - 8/10 - Another good action film

Watched Westworld last night great film hard to believe it was made in 1973!

Then followed that up with Class of 1999, a film i love but i'm not quite sure why :p

must have been in a "robots that look like humans" mood :D

I'm so glad I'm not you:p

lol i know when u have played 1000's of online hands, you learn pretty quickly that to re-raise a re-raise is pretty redicolous unless you have the absolute nuts.

just call, you'll still be able to tell if he is bluffing, and learn his tell... but without the embarrassment of going out if u werent to re raise his re raise and then fall all in:'/

it was enjoyable despite the poker bits and the poker commentators and the criminally bad plot twist... oh noes the baddy isnt the big baddy afterall.

it wasnt even as though bond had a secret weapon to help him escape the ball banging torture. he never saw escaping he got lucky. that never happens to bond he usually has a plan or some gadget - NOT the pity of a bigger bad guy:/ ah well at least they used Q to explain that she had made a deal to let him go if she gave them the money which kinda almost made it make sense.

I said...'for me' which was a way of stating my opinion.

Let's see, I've seen 6 of his feature films and have not been blown away by any. Also I don't 'try' and be knowledgeable about film. I know I still have a lot to learn but I know hell of a lot more than your average individual.

Also, yes...I have seen Clockwork Orange. From what I've seen it's his best work, The Shining is also a great film. I think he's a good director but not as brilliant as many others say.

To give you an idea of my favourite directors...

Sergio Leone, David Fincher, Christopher Nolan, Sam Mendes, Michael Haneke and Scorsese would be a few.

Just watch them when they come on next, probably only a few days time if you have a new box by then :)

Turns out the Sky+ box is fine, the dish had somehow come loose. :o Next door neighbour noticed it and fixed it before I even had a chance to go outside. Legend. :D

Not sure if you missed it but I commented on your views on Dead Man's Shoes earlier.

That it?:o

Sheesh,

What about character? subtext? emotional arc's?

What about them? The film didn't really feel that indepth to me? Might have to watch it again but I don't know, it just didn't seem all that emotional apart from the ending which was a bit .

Watched Gamer just now and it was better than expected although some of the camera work was ****, made it difficult to see what was happening. The ending was quite poor imo but the slightly warped reality was pretty cool and we got to see some boobies. :)

Watched this last night, so I can comment now.

Overall I thought it was an alright film, nothing special really, just a bloke going on a killing spree.

i agree nowt special i would have gotten up and left the room or changed channel had my mate not brought the dvd to watch specifically...

it just felt low budget, lame, unrealistic for all the reasons i outlined in great detail.

it was just about 'alright' but i will certainly never ever watch it again and i will try and avoid this director. the main lead character anti hero dude was OK in his performance everyone else and everything else was vaguely passable at best/
