What film did you watch last night?

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) - 8/10

The film’s a bit all over the place, but that’s to be expected with a dimension hopping plot.

The different themes the plot explores are good and hold it all together, although it does rely on prior knowledge of the characters and the TV shows a little too much.

The multiverse also allows for lots of visually spectacular scenes, great special effects and inventive fight scenes.

The acting and characters are good with some strong cameos, although some do feel a bit forced and although a slightly darker style, it still manages some humour.

I have just finished my first viewing of Dune and also my first 4K Blu-ray movie.

Wow. 9.5/10 only took .5 points off as I wasn't too sure what was happening at the start due to not reading the books or seeing the original movie. I quickly got the jist of it though and I can't really think of negative about the movie. Also my experience with my first 4K Disk after only watching streaming in 4k/HDR up to now is....damn I forgot how much better the audio is. Blasting the lossless Dolby Atmos into my living room. Who needs the cinema these days?!

The only one I remember is The World is Not Enough, only because of the joke in it about Dr Chrismas Jones only coming once a year.

I have been meaning to watch the bond films again, but most likely from the 90s onwards rather the older films as they really haven't aged well.

Dr Strange and Multiverse of Madness 5/10
Didn't enjoy it, felt the story was all over the place, characters not likable at all (except Cpt Carter because I have mega crush on Hayley Atwell)
The problem with the Marvel films is they seem to get more and more outlandish with each new movie, we've gone from Ironman to battling giant 1 eyed squid monsters from outer space, gets a bit tedious after a while.

Molly's Game - 8/10 (Netflix)

I thought this was great. I love things based on true stories and this one had a great story around someone setting up and running high stakes poker games for the elite (the Olympic athlete aspect isn't really relevant). Also some good acting. Recommended.

Ambulance - 4/10

That might even be a little generous. I have no issue with it's 'Michael Bay'ness... it was just a terrible plot with lots of things that just didn't make sense.

I can count on one hand the amount of films that have actually gone beyond where my brain is capable of turning off and straight in to the irritating category. This is one of them. I don't know how thick the average Michael Bay fan is but if they consider this even remotely acceptable, then god help us. What a disaster.

Anyway, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.

Nicky cage plays nicky cage in a film about how nicky cage goes on an adventure and writes a film about it. Javier Pena's character was absolutely superb, it was ridiculously cheesy, dorky, and dripping in absolute bottom of the pile humour, the stuff that @mrk and @Feek would consider funny. It was absolutely terrible, and quite possibly one of the most fun films I've seen in over a decade. It was Cage at his absolute peak, and the film couldn't have been better for it. 5/10 if you're viewing it as a good film, 11/10 if you're watching it for the fun of it. I couldn't think of a better tribute to Cage.

You do realise that it's not meant to be a serious film right?

Plus it's pretty clear it has a pretty decent following going by the scores all over.

So maybe the expectations you set aside were not met, doesn't mean it wasn't a decent movie for everyone else.

House of Gucci.

4/10

It just plodded for me, felt like hard work. Interesting story overall, but just couldn’t get into it.
Watched this tonight with my wife.

4/10 is being generous IMO. Absolutely shocking.

It was almost like a bunch of random scenes strung together. I had no sense of time/place/motivations.

One minute they are getting married, then pregnant, suddenly there's a baby along with the news that Adam Drivers dad is ill. The next scene they don't have their newborn baby with them and tell Jeremy Irons he has a Granddaughter and then the next scene it's his funeral, then suddenly in the next scene after that, the kid is 4 years old.

Characters were randomly introduced (new girlfriend) without warning. Jared Leto seemed to be playing Super Mario.

3/10 and that's only because it looks decent enough.

Antichrist. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0870984/

I watched this more because of Willem Defoe than anything else,
though I have heard/read interesting info about the director so I'll be sure to check out more of his work soon.

As for the film itself, well, it is the most explicit movie I've ever seen. Shocking in places for sure, but not one I'd wish to watch again.

Overall, it's a very intense film and for the most part, I quite enjoyed it.
