What film did you watch last night?

I watched this more because of Willem Defoe than anything else,
though I have heard/read interesting info about the director so I'll be sure to check out more of his work soon.

As for the film itself, well, it is the most explicit movie I've ever seen. Shocking in places for sure, but not one I'd wish to watch again.

Overall, it's a very intense film and for the most part, I quite enjoyed it.

Saw this at the cinema. Some people did actually walk out.

Yeah, I just thought he’d move away from the type of line delivery they’d used in The Lobster. But I guess it’s his ‘thing’.

I’ve not got an aversion to challenging films, but, as you say, just wasn’t striking a chord with me!

I do think Colin Farrell is great though!
 
The Batman - 8½ / 10

Let me set the scene. I'm generally a Marvel guy over DC. I did enjoy a lot of the earlier Batman movies, didn't really bother with Batman v Superman etc. I've never read the comics. I just enjoy superhero movies.

I loved this movie. I thought the musical score worked great. I thought they did a great job of building a 'dark' Gotham I could feel (more so than any other Batman movie I think) While I agree Bruce Wayne did look a little puny, as said in an earlier post, he looked fine in his suit, which was the majority of the movie. I tend not to like long movies, maybe it helped I was ready for 3 hours, but actually it moved along nicely I thought, I didn't find myself checking the time very often. The only thing that annoyed me slightly -

He worked out the plan, as the vans started to explode... so it was basically no help... and still managed to thwart the RIddler (kind of... or not I guess, as everything flooded... but he took down all his guys still. He might as well have not worked it out and it would be the same outcome.

But wasn't Commissioner Gordon with him? He'd likely protect him.

I haven't seen The Lobster yet but I do have it recorded. I've read the synopsis but it doesn't scream at me, to watch it, at the moment.

Dog Tooth, which is by the same guy, is another brilliant and quirky film! It just made me laugh so much and was so dark and funny. I'm not sure you would like it though, if you are not already keen on his style of writing.

It is apparently based on that guy, Josef Fritzel, who kept his daughter Elizabeth, hidden in his basement, and had several children with her.
 
The French Dispatch 8/10 another quirky imaginative set of stories from We Anderson who is a must see director for me. I rarely if ever re-watch his films because I fear they will lose some of their magic but every one has left me entertained and uplifted after watching. Apart from Steve Zizoo (or however it's spelled) never got on with it.

If you have D+ available now.

I thought from reading the premise, this was going to be a Depp Impact/Armageddon vibe film, how wrong I was!!

Laughable acting. Terrible CGI. A plot which was all over the place. Particularly loved bit where they 'just' launched the rocket with a handful of people.

I stuck it out until the end just to see where it went, but really don't waste your time. Literally what is wrong with Hollywood at the moment.

Handful of people, one engine down and essentially through a giant ******* wave. Surprised they stopped there.
 
I rewatched Animal House, still love it, although there are a few jokes that probably wouldn't be done today (unless you were setting it in the 60's:)).
I'd forgotten some of the jokes, and people involved in it, and although the extras were limited they were pretty good such as the "catch up" with several of the main actors playing their characters a few decades later:)
Although I'm now trying to remember where else I've heard the "and she now works as a tour guide at universal" line, as I'm sure I've heard variations of it in various films/tv from around that time either when someone's asked about where someone is now, or in the ind credits bits where they liked to do "Stan is a successful businessman, Steve is on the run from the mob and Sally works at Universal - as a tour guide".

I may make the next one up Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
