What film did you watch last night?

Thirteen lives
5/10

Not interested in this at all, but a few people have commented on how good it is. I gave up after 50 minutes, as I already know what happens, from following the news. Some people are trapped in a cave and professional divers come and rescue them. Does it start to get interesting further along, is there a plot twist?

Thirteen Lives.

I enjoyed it quite a lot though I did miss out on the last few minutes or so.

I thought Viggo Mortensen's accent was very well done indeed.

Nope 6.5/10
I feel Jordan Peele has some really great ideas, but doesn't always know quite how to use them. I enjoyed this, but felt he could have done more with it. Some threads went nowhere and had no resolution. Also the female lead was highly annoying.

Beast (2022) - 6/10

A mostly traditional ‘creature feature’ elevated by its majestic South African setting and magnificent creatures.

The main plot serves its purpose and I can see why the family strife was included, but the girls’ characters were quite annoying and the dream sequences were unexplained and out of place.

There’s enough good acting, tension and great lion CGI for the film to do its job as enjoyable entertainment with a mild moral message, even if the ending was (expectedly) far-fetched.
is that a film adaptation of the book by Peter benchley? I think I enjoyed the book. there was a film adaptation of it with a young William Petersen in, must have been early 90s. it was ok too.

Isn't the Benchley one about a squid , I know they change things when doing adaptations but going from a squid to a lion is pushing it a bit.

Nope pretty consistent through start to finish. Personally thought it interesting enough but it is more of a caricature take on events rather than documentary.

Prey - 4/10

I had literally no idea before watching so the whole Apache thing was a surprise.

Some things I like:

I liked how the Apaches spoke English, and the white men French, nice little touch was quite clever for immersion.

I liked how it was set in the past, and also didn't try to narrate or explain everything in the movie, bug bear of mine.

The setting/scenery good, and the acting from the main characters was ok.

Didn't like:

No real suspense, much more of an action movie then a thriller compared to the original.

Action/gore just becomes a bit mundane.

Waaaaaaaaay too much CGI for me (goes into toning down the action/gore into a fewer but more impactful events)

But my main thing is the plot, seriously these people who make these movies just don't have any imagination, it literally played like for like of the original, particularly the end, was awful. Instead of mud we will put in this "yellow flower" that lowers your body temperature, I mean what? You'd be dead if you were that cold you didn't show up on an IR camera. Oh and, let's lure it, blah blah blah. Just grow some balls and imagination and think up something original......

It's pretty fascinating how they went about saving them. There's lots I didn't know, even though I knew the outcome. I won't post them here because ya know, spoilers. Sometimes it's about the journey, not just the ending... or words to that effect. Plenty of movies show well-known events, were you bored during Zero Dark Thirty as well :p

After watching Prey last week went back to the start and watched Predator.

It's hard not to watch it with rose tints in but my sons found the effects laughable, I had to remind them it is 35 years old!

As @BUDFORCE says Prey is pretty much the same film but I found them more enjoyable!

The 4k remastered on Disney looked amazing in places.

4/5
