What film did you watch last night?

The Wolf of Wall Street - 9/10

Saw it when it first came out but didn't quite remember it. Great film, and Margot is fit stuff!!!

The ludes scene with the Countach  so many funny moments.

Zhou.

What would happen if director Kevin Ko mashed the scripts of Ringu, Gokseong, and Noroi together, then dropped them from a 7 storey window into a muddy puddle? Let's find out!

It's Taiwan, and some weird ******** is happening for no apparent reason! But don't worry, because protagonist Li Ronan has been making a video diary of her experiences, so she can dump as much exposition on us as she needs to at any given moment.

Anyway, she used to be part of a ghostbusting team until the fateful day when they visited a weird cult and ****** around with some stuff that should definitely have been left un-****** with. Two thirds of the team ended up dead, and Ronan's as-yet-unborn daughter was stricken with a terrible curse.

The movie shifts back and forth in time, revealing fresh pieces of the past to explain the present. Ronan doggedly records her efforts to lift the curse, addressing the audience directly as she urges us to participate in the incantation ritual which is supposed to bless her daughter and restore her health. But is Ronan a reliable narrator? Are we even getting the full story? What happens next will shock you!

I rate Zhou at 24.97 on the Haglee Scale, which works out as a respectable 7.5 on IMDB.

I googled Haglee Scale and it just comes up with this thread. What the hell is it.

Amsterdam. 6/10 (5 being average). An odd one - not what the Mrs was expecting (a whodunnit) but it was still interesting to watch although more of an art house/documentary recreation of historic events. Actors top notch but the just something in the writing left it a little dry. As said above - not drawn in to it, nor too bored either.

Smile 7/10

This doesnt bring anything new to the genre but its a pretty good horror that unashamedly uses jump scares for effect, but it uses them well! Good tension buildup and use of a quite discordant soundtrack which adds to the uncomfortable feeling. Definitely one of the better horror releases lately

X - 7.5/10

Not a fan of horror but read rave reviews for this being different enough to warrant a watch.

I think the first psychological half was more interesting than the second which was straight up horror. Well acted though with some very typical A24 weirdness thrown in.
A prequel is also out according to the internet (Pearl) which was shot at the same time, and this film has made me invested enough in the universe/lore to actually watch that.

Just this thread? Damn, you should have found my IMDB reviews as well. :p

The Haglee Scale was either developed by Sir William Haglee in 1947, or simply made up by me for the lulz, depending on who you ask.

Feeling nostalgic recently and ended up watching Star Trek II - VI in UHD. I recall TMP not being the best so chose to start from the Wrath of Khan.

V - The Final Frontier wasn't the best, but loved the others.

The other one was Speak No Evil which is the most gripping, disturbing film I've seen in a while. About a Danish family that meet a family on holiday and go and stay with them.
I spent most of the film trying to find out where I can buy the guy’s cat t-shirt from the scene where they go back to the house :o

Alright film though, but was expecting more to be honest.

Do Revenge - 6½/10

I wasn't really sure what I was getting into here, but the trailer looked reasonable fun. It's one of those where you're not actually sure who the 'good guy/girl' is and who you should be pulling for. A few twists, some more obvious than others, but reasonably entertaining.

Watched a couple of films yesterday.

Hellraiser 2/10
Attempted to watch this dismal reboot. Switched off after about 15 to 20 minutes.

Apostle 6/10
Another horror film about a cult but quite well done. Gets a bit overly gruesome in the second half though.

The shining 8.5/10
Seen this classic several times now and pick out new things each time. Great film, they don't make them like this anymore.

Have you seen the mini TV series of The Shining from years and years ago?

I saw it first before I saw the film but because it sticks so much closer to the book, I have always preferred it.
