What film did you watch last night?

I watched it with 2 mates, I loved it, one thought it was OK, the other fell asleep

So just like LSD, can be a personally great experience but not one you'd recommend to others :p

Think i was one of the few that didnt get it or thought it wasnt my cup of tea.

Tried Everything Everywhere all at Once....wtf...?
Turned off after 30mins

I persevered with it but thought it was.....

The whale 7.5/10
Seriously heavy going film this.

For once a properly written gay character that isn't just there to tick a box. A fantastic performance by Brendan Fraser. Really rips at the heartstrings.

Felt Sadie Sink overacted just a tad, but was suitably unlikable and played her part.

It's quite a tough watch, but one of the best films of the year I'm sure.

I was only discussing the 99 remake of this tonight with my brother. That and 13 ghosts. On my to watch next list!

Is that the one wi the Liam Neeson and Owen Wilson? I remember enjoying that as a young teen but watching as an adult it’s absolutely abysmal!

The best bit is that the bad guy has the name of the country.

Huuuuuuughhhh Craaaaaain.

Creed III (Rocky 9)

Not a huge amount to say about this without spoilers, but this is probably the ‘tightest’ film in the Creed trilogy - very lean, decent sports drama with no dead spots. The fighting scenes were incredible. The daughter scenes were sweet and funny. It was also good to see it move on from having Rocky (who is absent).

In fact, I’d say there was only really one drawback (albeit a material one)…

The whole film went exactly as I expected it to from the get go … there were no surprises or shocks. I was hoping for something out in of the blue… but it never happened. OK, it doesn’t damage the well-made product, but it therefore failed to amaze me.

A decent entry nevertheless and the fights were brilliant on the big screen.

7.5/10

Aftersun

A slow burner but I like Terrence Malick films so no problem for me. It has a lot of heart at its core. Probably the best of the 2022 releases that I've seen with a great soundtrack too.

9/10

star wars : rise of skywalker

forced to watch this film with younger people in my familiy

Score: 2/10

I watched it and though to myself 'how could disney murder such a great franchise with this woke influenced bull...... **** '
long and windey, and script was obviously written by someone who hates star wars

would rather have scurvy of the eyes than watch this trash again

2 words Kathleen Kennedy. Hopefully she be out soon. Boba Fett TV series was ruined by her meddling in it too.

I really don't think KK actually has much in put in the TV shows. They are mostly Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni.

The success of Mandalorian and others was down to her getting forced to stay away and not interfere. Squadrons is one show that's been limbo comes to mind.

Grogu was meant to follow Luke but because of his popularity they changed it. Jon Favreau threatened to leave but was talked back after he warned Bob Chapek if she did this again he gone.

She hasn't got an idea of SW if her life depended on it. She been a glorified tea lady since the Lucas days.

We watched Everything, Everywhere… last night and thought it was pretty naff on the whole. Totally agree with the two star Guardian review of it.
How Jamie Lee Curtis and all the other Oscar wins came to be, I’ll never know. We’re baffled by it. Particularly ahead of the likes of All Quiet…, Banshee, Cate Blanchett, Brendan Gleeson and Kerry Condon.

Zodiac (2007) 7/10

Based on the notorious serial killer of the same name, who stalked the San Francisco area in the late sixties. Produced by David Fincher who went on to produce the serial killer series Mindhunter.

I knew the serial killer in Dirty Harry 'Scorpio' was based on the Zodiac. When reading further, I didn't know Dirty Harry, Harry Callahan and Steve McQueen's Frank Bullitt were based on the lead cop who investigated these killing which was a surprise!

Smile - wtf/10

Smile - didn't finish.

I just don't get the excitement around this, maybe for horror casuals it's fine but for anyone with more than a passing attachment to horror, it's just not good. Jump scares are glaringly telegraphed, it re-treads the same old ground with the build ups, there's just nothing interesting here. I'd normally not have bothered with it but i'm constantly seeing snippets and comments about it on the horror sites I frequent.

I'm a completionist so will revisit at some point, perhaps.

So I finally watched it to completion a week ago, it's adequate enough - maybe a 5/10 and most of that is from the final reveal.

Also it tries way too hard to be an A24 level horror with it's half assed arty camera shots, while a lot of the A24 content has good writing and performances to back it up - this isn't remotely the same quality.
