What film did you watch last night?

The Night House - 9/10

Loved this one, had never heard of it before tonight. psychological style horror about a grieving widow (played by the fantastic Rebecca Hall) trying to move on after her husband kills himself and leaves a strange note. Some very effective visuals!

If you want another decent horror with Rebecca Hall check out Resurrection - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11540726

It's needlessly downrated on IMDB (as most horror is) and is easily a 7/10 movie. There is a scene with Hall, just telling a story about her past that's totally engrossing and terrifying at the same time, she is a great actress.

I also agree that The Night House is excellent, almost never gave it a try as the trailers didn't do it any favours. Just checked, rated 6.5/10 on IMDB, absolute joke of a score.

Just been to see The Nun 2 in Odeon's iSense.

Absolute cracker of a horror - 10/10.

Blimey, high praise! Seeing this tomorrow, but I’m expecting it to be a fun popcorn horror. Something as silly as the antagonist being a ghost nun requires it IMO.

The first Nun film had its tongue firmly in cheek and it suited it well. I very much enjoyed that the climax reverted back to an ongoing joke the film had set up:

Something along the lines of…

“You will die, Frenchman….”
“….. I’m not French…. I’m French CANADIAN!!”

 :D - the insult was enough for him to overcome the evil :p

The Equalizer 3 (2023) - 7/10

A solid action thriller with a moody style but lacking in originality.

The lead actor’s no-nonsense attitude and the fast, brutal action scenes are good and almost make up for the cliché villains and uneven pacing.

Possibly too much focus on the idyllic and stunning Italian scenery and culture and an odd start, but the inclusion of a supporting character and larger plot is balanced well with the personal investment.

Enjoyed this rather a lot; quite dark and didn't end the way I thought it would.
I found it disappointing, the ending redeemed it a little but it was by the numbers all the way through and was calling all the plot points before they were happening, everything was way too telegraphed - I just watch too much horror I guess. :D

Ignoring the ending, i'd score it a 4/10 - gets an extra couple of points due to the ending however and overall it's a 6/10 for me.

Some really lame jump scare moments too… the person approaching the car oh lawd  - I think it lost me at that point.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)

I dunno man, I know the movie is kinda crap but it's also kind cool, when did kids movies stopped being so violent. Nothing wrong with some old fashioned good bs bad ass kicking.

6/10
