What film did you watch last night?

Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves - disappointed really, I'd heard a few good things but it didn't live up to them it wasn't awful once it got going but that seemed to take a while. 3/5 (extra point as I liked the 80s cartoon)

Its more based on the game than directly related to the cartoon.

Also the film while not great was a million times better than the Dumgeons and Dragons movie released in early 2000s.

Prometheus and Alien: Covenant.

Michael Fassbender was very good in both of these. Nice twist in Covenant.

I thoroughly enjoyed both movies but i have to say some very irrational decisions and behaviours from some of the crew which was comical.

Especially the pilot during the quarantine scene on the shuttle. She couldnt have messed up more if she tried. It was like a comedy sketch when shs caused the entire shuttle to explode and still never got the little bugger

Ready or Not - 7.5/10

Fun little horror comedy, really like Samara Weaving. Few plot holes and some characters teleporting around so they could be in the right place stopped it getting a better score though

Last Voyage of the Demeter - 7/10 - a perfectly serviceable horror that comes apart a little once you see Dracula in full, much better when he's kept to the shadows.

It gets bonus points for actually...

not having the kid survive, most mainstream horror has children with full plot armour and never feel any risk.

I'd happily watch a sequel.

The Bob’s Burgers Movie (2022) - 7/10
Classic Bob’s Burgers with the same feel-good funny humour and style as the TV show but with improved animation. The story wasn’t as big as I was expecting but it had plenty of charm and lots of the iconic characters. The musical numbers were entertaining if a little out of place but overall, it was enjoyable and fun.

Ambush (2023) - 2/10

A very bad low budget B movie set in Vietnam. Poor acting, terrible dialogue and bad cinematography rounded off by cheap special effects and a weak plot. It has a different perspective with the ‘green’ engineers operating out of their normal area of training and coming to realise the futility of their mission, but it’s unrealistic in the details and with some of the characters. No atmosphere or tension, It barely touches on the horrors of war and outside of the awful action scenes, it’s too slow and dull to be interesting.

EO (2022) - 4/10

A melancholic story of a donkey who is trying to reunite with his loving owner. Mostly from the donkey’s point of view, it’s a bit weird and a bit arty with colored sequences and classical music. The donkey’s journey is very eventful with a good representation of the use and abuse of animals in today’s modern world, but I didn’t find it that emotionally profound or entertaining – maybe donkey’s mean more in Polish culture? There’s some humour, the donkey’s cute enough and his soulful eyes showed a sense of understanding, but it wasn’t really for me.

Clean (2021) - 4/10

A vengeance thriller starring a trash man with a tragic and violent past who literally and metaphorically cleans up the rundown neighborhood. The plot is straightforward and suffers a bit from white savior complex, but has a gritty urban atmosphere and remains watchable. Brody is good as the lead but it was too slow, only picking up in the second half before ending with a worthwhile and fitting finale.

One Way (2022) - 5/10

A story of desperation and redemption through unconventional means. Although low key and low on action and suspense, the journey is eventful and the acting performances and hallucinatory sequences were quite good. It’s not particularly memorable or realistic but it held my attention and didn’t quite end as I was expecting.

Last Looks (2021) - 7/10

A quirky and comedic murder investigation full of twists and turns but nowhere near as clever as it could have been. Gibson was really enjoyable hamming it up and Hunnam was a good lead as the reluctant and unconventional ‘hippy’ hero. Solid supporting performances and with some of the craziness only LA/the movie industry can deliver, it makes for a light and fun production.

Fearless (2006) - 8/10

Really enjoyed watching this movie. Decent story along with great fighting - its a real shame Jet Li has stopped making movies as he was one of my favourites and also one of the best.
