What film did you watch last night?

I rewatched Kill Bill 1 and 2 because my younger brother had not seen them. The first film is an absolute riot! KB2 is also fun, but we both felt it was not as good as part 1.

KB1 - 9/10
KB2 - 8/10
I probably will burn in Hell for posting this, the Pulp Fiction Fans will demand it! :p Kill Bill part 1 is his best film, part 2 is his 2nd best. Also A guilty pleasure.

To continue watching the old Classics, Casablanca on NYE. Bogey, Lorre, Bergman & Rains all put in a good shift, classic dialogue , Deserved the BP Oscar. 7/10.

I must be completely in my own world of hatred for KB1 and 2. I personally think they're some of the worst films I've had the displeasure of watching. They're so corny and cliché that I can't suffer them. It's like he took every genre he claims to love and did a giant **** on all of them.

Oldboy (2003) - Never heard of this before somehow and walked in blind apart from the locked up 15 years for some reason bit. 8/10 for me, really glad to have watched it, great revenge film and great cinematography. Could hardly believe it was 20 years old apart from the tech changes eg flip phones and CRT monitors. Brilliant watch and will watch it again sometime.

Am I becoming an old fuddy duddy or is it simply that older films are just superior in many ways?

We saved the new Indiana Jones film for Christmas day and watched the big budget Netflix Rebel Moon for new years. Both instantly forgettable and rubbish. Half the time I was on my phone.

Even though I have seen them a gazillion times we also re-watched Jaws and Die Hard. Didn't pick up my phone once. From the music to the acting and story telling. Both superb.

Yep, most modern Hollywood films are total garbage :(

You have to look at indie and foreign films to find anything worth watching these days.

We've been watching old classics lately rather than anything new.

Old film aren't any better, you're just comparing the best of the films in your lifetime (or before) with a few current films. Do you think films as bad as Rebel Moon weren't released then too?

Not only that, the more you have watched, the more you start to get deja vu and notice tropes, predictable this and that, etc.

Recent movies will still seem new and interesting to younguns who haven't binged on all the 80s/90s fare we have.

There was barely anything from Hollywood worth watching in the whole of 2023. Exception of maybe Oppenheimer. Name a year from the 80's or 90's where this was the case?

I watched "Detachment" (2011).
I found it up there with the most depressing films I've ever watched, and I say that in a complimentary way. Adrien Brody is a great actor (was in Peaky Blinders). It looks at our dysfunctional society through the eyes of a substitute teacher.

If you like it, also try "Requiem for a dream" (2000).

Saltburn. 5/10.

Yet again the majority of ********** over reacting about a pretty average film.

Reading countless posts on social media of people saying they’re scarred after watching it and people had to turn it off half way through etc..
