What film did you watch last night?

Inside Out 2 8/10

Original is one of my favourites. This one was a fairly safe sequel, I do wish they'd taken more of a risk. It was funny and enjoyable though.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Quite enjoyable but the daughter was a total pillock, yet was somehow still help up as a heroic victim. Bizarre.
Some great callbacks though.

The Mauritanian 8/10 loved it

gonna try all 3 LoTR extended back to back mon or tues....anyone else done this ?
need to buy some munchies first

I enjoyed Maika Monroe's performances in It Follows and Longlegs, so I was quite happy to give this one a go.
Another good performance by her, and overall, a film worth checking out, IMO. 'Sort' of a spoiler below, but nothing much revealed.

I wasn't expecting the ending to turn out the way it did. The film did manage to keep me guessing through some of it, too.

I've just noticed another one of hers on Netflix, called The Guest. I'll check that out later! :)
^^ Just realised I've seen that before. Not a bad movie from memory.

The Lincoln Lawyer - 7/10

Watched it as I just finished the book. Matthew McConaughey plays Micky Haller, who is a Defense lawyer in LA (in the same 'universe' as Bosch) It stays pretty close to the book and so is a good story, reasonably well told in film.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024) - 8/10

A very quirky comedy horror full of Burton’s uniquely morbid art style.

The larger than life characters and settings makes for a very fun and entertaining film, but some of the multiple plot lines were underdeveloped and the randomness of the events seemed to be there just to add to the madcap chaos rather than progress the plots.

Great acting, fun cameos, catchy music, great special effects and blending of the animation with the live action, but there were too many characters and elements at times which made the pacing suffer.

Went and seen the new beetlejuice last night. What a load of rubbish. Keaton played the part brilliantly and the casting was superb but the film was just boring.

Each to their own, the people infront of me laughed at everything - which probably had somewhat a negative effect on the film for me.

Annoying people, enjoying themselves :D

I don't know why, but we watched Borderlands. Just a bit of a mess of a movie that feels like it must have significant chunks removed in the edit as there is no sense of travelling distances between any of the places they visit.

I'd probably give it 4/10 though, it was absolute rubbish but still not the worst thing I've ever seen.

Claptrap didn't make me laugh once, but one or two of his lines did raise a brief smile. That's about as much as I got out of it.

Greenland, meaningless trash tbh with annoying plot instances but the missus likes a disaster film and I thought the trailer looked ok 4.5/10

Gran Turismo (2023)

I don't know who this film is for or who could possibly enjoy it. Every aspect of it makes me roll my eyes or throw my hands up in disbelief.

As a gamer, a sim racer and someone who has play all the GT games up to six. It doesn't represent of any aspect of those things and is dumbed down for people that don't have an knowledge or experience instead.

As a fan of motorsport it's just as bad. The on screen depictions are nothing like real motorsport and more like the Fast and Furious than real motor racing.

As a film fan, the acting is dire, even from so called seasoned actors who've done decent work in the past. The dialogue even worse and the whole film is just cheesy and childish nonsense. Not even coming close to Neil Blomkamp's previous work, which I've actually enjoyed a lot.

There's really is nothing to redeem this film in anyway at all. It's easily one of the worst films I've sat through and actually finished. Something I'm questioning my sanity over, when I should've turned it off within the first ten minutes.

0/10
