What film did you watch last night?

The Gentlemen (film)
Solid 9/10 - only complaint was that it had to end :)
When I saw there was a series too was bit gutted to find they had gone the "spin off" route (different cast etc) I think they missed a trick
Transformers (the firsr bay movie) as the kids wanted to watch it. Huge regret, it's really not aged well and is just cringe worthy

5/10
When we had my nephews over they were watching the G1 cartoon of that on DVD. I can't lie its better than the bay films

Scream 5 & 6.

I've seen them before but, and enjoyed them, so watched them again last night.

Still enjoyable but some really annoying things do happen in these films. And it's not because the Scream franchise started out as a parody of horror film tropes, there's been too many of these films for that now.

I've never been stabbed but when someone shoves a long Bowie type knife into your guts, twists it then pulls it out, I really doubt you'd be able to, 20 mins film time later, run up to see how everyone is and has gotten on fighting the, eventually revealed, bad guys.

FFS Stop shouting "HEY" as you are about to shoot a bad guy as they have their back to you attacking their victim.

When you've ******* a bad guy in the face with a heavy object and they're down, take a second to rip their mask off.

Why o why, in a country where guns are so readily available, don't the protagonists just take guns with them?

Very enjoyable though.

Moana 2 - technically amazing but I probably should have watched the first one before going to see number 2. Feels like I'm missing some background.

Magnolia (1999)

I thought it was about time I got around to watching it and for the most part I enjoyed it.

It's definitely a bit too long, particularly with the story arc being relatively shallow and it being all about the characters.

Tom Cruise's role was easily the most interesting character and I felt I'd rather have watched an entire film about his character than anyone else. It was also a great performance and showcases how much range he really has in his acting repertoire.

I still think that There Will Be Blood is PT Anderson's best film and I doubt I'd watch Magnolia again, but it's definitely worth investing three hours into.

7/10

Bird Box - 8.5/10, enjoyed this a lot, kind of like A Quiet Place but its seeing that gets you killed here. Sandra Bullock very good in it.

Don't Move - 7/10, Netflix made thriller about a bad man and his next victim, quite an original idea, good imo.

The Creator - 7/10, futuristic AI sci fi movie, great effects, little bit too corny/cheesy for me but enjoyed it.

Damsel - 7/10, fantasy movie with dragons etc, interesting idea, not my usual type of film but enjoyed it.

The Adam Project - (no rating), turned it off way before the end, sci-fi / time travelling movie just a bit too daft for me but I think it's a kid film anyway?

Red Notice - (no rating), again turned it off way before the end, spy / action type movie it was just too silly and over the top for me (think it was trying to be a comedy).

Edit: forgot about Repo Man - Sci fi comedy movie, I'm a sci fi fan and this movie apparently has a cult following, but sadly I just found it dated and not very interesting, didn't watch it all.

Watched these over the last few days, about to watch some more, I have a VR app where I can watch movies with an AI powered human looking avatar and they also follow the movie plot and comment on it etc so I'm testing it and enjoying some movies at the same time.

Elevation - 4/10

Oh dear. Below average monster flick with plot holes the entire production could have disappeared through. Sadly they didn't.

Twist at the end that made little sense to top off this disaster.

Born on the Fourth of July (1989)

First time I've rewatched it since the VHS days. Holds up quite well, considering when it was made, but doesn't quite have the impact it did originally. Cruise was well deserving of his Oscar nomination and the supporting cast aquit themselves well. I do feel it ends a little abruptly and I would've at least liked to have seen his speech.

6.5/10

The Trap. Awful.
This film had so many opportunities to be a good film.
They gave away it was him right from the off. They introduced the crazy friends mum but that didn't go anywhere. His wife could have been in on it. There were so many opportunities to create a film with twists and turns - not a single surprising thing happened the whole film. I really think it was lazy.
