What film did you watch last night?

The Witch Part 1. @ Prime. Defo not what I expected but enjoyed it nevertheless. Korean Super violent movie about a mysterious girl who escaped and lost all memory. Her past catches up with super ordinary circumstances. 7.5/10.

Yes I'm awarehouse this isnt an actual Disney film it just comes across as one due to the cookie cutter story and songs, my comment was just poorly worded. The Mrs saw the stage musical in London when it came out and really liked it, this not so much.
The songs, and the vast majority of the speech, are an exact copy of the stage show.

Glad i didn't see it then.

Spirited 7/10

Predictable and cheesy as hell but i thought this was pretty good for a musical and liked it a lot more than wicked. The songs were good and catchy even with the auto tune plus it had great choreography.

Going South (1978)

Western comedy staring Jack Nicholson. There's not a lot going on here, but for the most part Jack is enjoyable to watch and the supporting cast do a decent job, although John Belushi and Danny Devito are under used.

5/10

DarkGame on Netflix

90 minutes of my life I will never get back, felt like some edgy teenager idea of Squid Games only to realise their budget was a £10 gift card from the local B&Q.

1/10

Oh yeah it's a good film no doubt about it but I over hyped it on my own head.

Definitely recommended!

It was good and I enjoyed it but I see what you mean, some of the scenes, acting and effects were superb but I don't know how to describe it, it was missing something. The build up was good but it loses it's way in the final act and imo spent too much time on the internal character drama rather than focus on the main attraction of the movie. Imo 6/10. Slightly disappointed.

The Straight Story (1999)

David Lynch gets another go this week.

Based on the true story of Alvin Straight. A man in his 70's and poor health travels from Iowa to Wisconsin on a tractor lawn mower to reconcile with his estranged brother after a stroke.

It's a heartwarming story that's made all the better for being a true story. And an amazing performance from the actor playing Alvin (Richard Farnsworth) who was basically dieing from Cancer during filming.

Not quite as good Lynch's The Elephant Man, but far easier to watch than some of his other work.

7/10

Venom the last dance. 6.5ish/10
I don't remember much from the second film except that it wasn't very good, this one was pretty good though. Had some good fight scenes and a few funny bits, didn't like the girl from Ted lasso and the story wasn't the best.

There was a second Venom film?! JK, they are forgetful fodder :D

Nosferatu (2024) - 9/10

A proper old fashioned vampire horror with great acting and visual style.

The film excellently portrays a monstrous creature of immense power and also shows the origins of a number of occult legends and imagery.

The period setting look authentic and the black and white scenes harken to the original as well as building up a sense of dread, mystery and terror.

The story isn’t anything new and there are pacing issues but the tragic ending and overall presentation made it thoroughly enjoyable.

I just finished The Holdovers. Wanted to watch this before I went back to work on Monday. Brilliant film and really feels like it was filmed in the 1970s. Great story and Paul Giamatti is fantastic, as he usually is. Da'Vine Joy Randolph is amazing and easily deserves her Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.
