What film did you watch last night?

Unstoppable.

The Mrs and I really enjoyed watching this. Left the cinema more than satisfied.

Brilliant acting and a real edge of seat plot.

8/10 from me.

Predators. Slow to the action and every character a cliché. Special effects are hidden in dark scenes. Once the action gets going it isn't terrible but definitely only a one time watch. 5/10

The Expendables.

Excellent casting, decent plot, lots of great action and they didn't do that stupid rapid camera thing that you see in other movies. Not an overly drawn out car chase scene, not an overly drawn out last speech with the bad guy, and just the right length for the final dual between the bosses. 4/5 stars. :)

I've been ill so watched a few recently:
The A Team - 8/10. Very enjoyable, never watched the series but this film was great fun. Just what I needed.
Inception - 6/10. Saw it at the cinema, didn't particularly enjoy it then. Found it relatively straight forward. It's an OK watch but still very so so.
Toy Story 3 - 6.5/10. Missed it at the cinema, bit of a shame I did as I think it would have been much better on the big screen and in 3d. Still an enjoyable watch, maybe I was just sad that it marked the end of an era.
A History of Violence - 5/10. Yeah, the acting was really good but nothing particularly happened. I was kept waiting for something to happen, then the final big scene happened and then bam it was over. Disappointed.
Machete - 8/10. I love it. Great fun!
Tron - 4/10. I don't like old films, sorry.

Just watched Dragon Hunters

Unfortunatly it has quite a few flaws, the story is poorly thought out and badly paced, none of the characters are patciularly likeable and are severly under developed and it has a habit of cutting scened you expect to be long VERY short and dragging others out mercilessly.

However, ALL of the above is made completely redundant by ONE scene, it's maybe just past the half way point and it consists of no speech, no action, just one particularly beautiful peice of music and some incredible world design, animation and symbolism.

I must also say that in general, the world design and animation of said world is incredible, it's just a pitty it's kind of stuck on the back seat a bit too much.

If anything I would liken it to a short fairy tale, there is a very compelling IDEA behind the story it's just executed in a way that is both unengaging and unemotive.

Final Fantasy - Spirits Within

Well being a big budget CGI film 9 years ago this surely looks dated now not that I remember if it looked that good back in the day when I saw it in the cinema all those years ago. The story is absurd and ending even more so, plot wholes come in bucket loads as do the stereotypes and fact that this was made by the Japanese is obvious. However, the little boy in me just loves it for some reason so this manages to be watchable.

5.5/10

I'll be watching that soon, I also seen Armadillo a few days ago which is about the Danish soldiers in the Helmand Province. There is a rather particular gruesome bit in there but suppose that's expected from a war documentary and apart from over the top editing in places I thought it was quite good.

Just watched armadillo must say that's the most upfront stuff I have seen. Very well documented

Does anyone know if there anymore like these apart from restrepo

Tried watching The Town, ended up switching it off after 30minutes, no grab what so ever!

Watched Resident Evil after life the other day, one word Forgetful! but then its no different to the rest of the series unfortunately as the first was great.

I watched Restrepo on Thursday, I thought it was one of the most compelling, insightful and disturbing war documentaries I've ever seen, thoroughly recommended. 9/10

I've also watched The Other Guys and Resident Evil Afterlife in the last few days. I thought Afterlife was complete rubbish. I didn't expect much after the previous Resident Evil films but this was even worse. The Other Guys was a watchable film, but it completely depends on if you can put up with Will Ferrell or not. I did think some of the humour was really strange, but the general storyline of two bungling cops was pretty enjoyable.

Dubya.

Undecided, really can't make my mind up as to whether it's a brilliant film with some thought provoking scenes. Or if it's a cobble together of events, with fiction daubed in to keep it interesting and paint the underachieving president in a better light.

Lost the Mrs 20 minutes into the film, as it had a lot of talking to start. :D

Just finished seeing Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Really nice movie, some great acting. Though I'm in two minds if the movie is a little overrated or not with 97% from rotten tomatoes.

Social Network - 8/10 - can't help but think it makes you like zuckerburg more because it's Jesse isenberg playing him!

Pirates of Silicon Valley 8/10 - low budget (made for TV I think) but a more interesting story than just Facebook. Could actually have done with being a bit longer to explain some of the leaps in the plot a bit more, but a fascinating bit of recent history for geeks :)

Man from Earth - 9/10 - loved this. Simple story telling. No special effects or stars. The way the story unravels is just brilliant
