What film did you watch last night?

Hanna - 6/10 This film wasn't bad but it seemed to really lack something. I think the pacing was off and I just couldn't get into it.

Brainscan 6/10 - I love this film, a bit cheesy with its 90's charm but I love watching it every two or three years :D

Damnit ! Noooo , why didn't anyone tell me , just turned on the tv to find that john carpenters The Thing is on itv 4 in hd. Missed an hour of it. One of my all time favourite films. Damn.

It's Kind of a Funny Story

Probably more of a coming of age (or adolescence?) type of film as it doesn't touch on mental health too much. Decent performances but it doesn't have much depth to it at all, 6.5/10

The Queen

I wasn't particularly clued up on the events of the incident and this wasn't a type of a film for me but did a good job of what it was suppose to, 7/10

As it is now Friday I can say that last night I watched Pulp Fiction. It was one of those strange feelings I often get with these 'classic' movies where I enjoy it and recognize it is a really good film but at the same time I was disappointed. I was kind of expecting it to be the best film I have ever seen. Altogether really good though.
8.5/10

Watched fight club earlier in the day, I was really enjoying it until the 'twist'. Kind of went downhill from there as I felt it left plot holes. If these had been ironed out I may have enjoyed it more but it bugged me.
7/10

Liam Neeson is king of the thriller right now, this was an awesome ride, 100 plus minutes of twists and action.

January Jones (Mad Men etc.) was brilliant in her disappointingly small role, it's not much beyond looking hot but its a start.

Great cast and story, captivating direction.

8.5/10

Not strictly last night, but most recent:

13 Assassins - Starts slowly. building up to an epic 45 minute battle scene. Like sword fights? You'll love this.

Win Win - Very enjoyable quirky comedy, not too dissimilar to Little Miss Sunshine/Juno, but a bit more downbeat and serious. A more real/human take on the financial crisis than you're likely to see in other films.

The Devil's Backbone - Wanted to see this for a while, really liked it, creepy and very well shot. A little slower than I expected but that's not to the films detriment.

Hangover 2 - 6/10 I liked the first one but never found it as good as it was made out. Part 2 is more of the same, but with most of the originality gone, however it is still funny in general. As everyone said, if you liked th first you will probably find the second 'ok' at least.

Green Zone - 7/10 Well done but forgettable Jason Bourne spinoff :p

Predators - 6.5/10

Not a bad action movie and actually felt a lot closer to the original Predator than I was expecting. If it had someone with Arnie's charisma instead of Adrien Brodie it could have been a really solid movie. As is it's worth a watch, but not an action classic.

X-Men First Class. 7/10 quite enjoyed this, film is quite disjointed though. Decent enough story line. Bit too long, in the middle feels a big stagnant but plenty of good effects. Better than I expected. Not really much character development except magnito and Charles Xavier. Too many odd characters dropped in that have no depth. Much better then other comic book type films like Thor etc.

Considering it's such a massive twist, I don't think there really are any holes. They do an amazing job throughout of making it work with the twist in mind.

The book does some scenes better, but that's only because there's some scenes you literally couldn't show in a film.

Maybe not Plot holes as such. I liked the way the insomnia thing was actually while Tyler was at work etc. I just didn't like the way some scenes were done such as him hurling himself down stairs on CCTV. It looked a little ridiculous.
Also I felt that at one point when Tyler was having sex with the woman (forgetting her name), it didn't make sense. I thought Tyler was meant to do the main things while Edward was 'asleep' as he didn't know he was doing them. However, he knew very well what Tyler was doing and was awake throughout. Not sure if there is an explanation for that I am not seeing?
I also feel they glossed over the beginning. In the eyes of everyone but Edward, he was seen punching himself in the face, this somehow encouraged other people to have fights with each other? Maybe I am picking too many holes here as well as just not really putting everything together.

It's supposed to look ridiculous, in the sense that he is throwing himself down the stairs because he believes he is having a fight with someone else who isn't really there.

This is the nature of dissociative personality disorder. There is generally one main personality. In the film, this is probably Ed Norton, though it's hard to say to be honest. That one personality can have knowledge of what the other personalities are doing, or it might not, and might be able to assume control of the mind, or it might not. In the case of Fight Club, it appears that Ed Norton does know what Brad Pitt is doing, but doesn't realise that they are one and the same person, and doesn't have full control.

Maybe that's skipped over a bit. You mean the scene in the car park outside the bar where he fights himself and then the handful of guys walk over to see what's going on? I forget whether he explicitly picks a fight with one of them or whether it's just implied, but I'd imagine that's how it panned out.

Well, in fairness, it is pretty weird stuff.

I've just watched Dr. Strangelove. It was very dark and very funny, as you'd expect. I really enjoyed the satire and the absurdity of it, like him having to call the president on the payphone, and the mineshaft gap, and all that stuff. Definitely a great film.
