What film did you watch last night?

The Two Escobars

I am old enough and lucky enough to have seen the Columbian national football team live on TV in their prime. This was something really special. I wasn't aware of the political/cultural problems which were behind the wave of unexpected success that this team achieved, although it didn't take a genius to work out that Cocaine would be involved somewhere.

The film is about Pablo Escobar and Andres Escobar, the former was the head of the biggest drug mob in the world and owner of the Columbian league side Atlético Nacional, and the latter was one of their top players who then went on to be one of their most remembered players of the national team.

I loved every minute of this film and the narco-soccer was exhilerating to say the least. I am pleased I watched this because the assumption I made about what happened was quite a way off the truth.

If you are interested in football and/or drug cartel mafia type documentaries, this is an essential watch.

The player highlights for me:

Tino Asprilla
Carlos Valderama
Renee Higuita

9 out of 10

Full film also available on youtube.

The Tattooist - available on netflix
A young artist(Behr) unknowingly plays a role in releasing a deadly spirit as he attempts to learn tatau, the Samoan tradition of tattooing.

6.5/10
For a horror movie I thought this was pretty decent. Little slow to begin with, with a pretty good story line and the ending was good.

The Awakening. 7/10.

One of those points is for the cast. Dominic West is great as always, as is Imelda Staunton. And Rebecca Hall is always nice to look at! :)

The plot was pretty good, but loses it's way towards the end I think. A few pointless scenes too.

John Carter, couldn't finish it, terrible. Like Jahjah Binks bad...

Shame, I was hoping it was going to be one of those films which was a slow burn and would pick up a following out of the cinema.

I watched Captain America. It was... alright I guess. A few things annoyed me (the Union Flag being hung upside down for example), but it was a pretty fun romp. I've still not seen The Avengers. I do like what they're doing with the new Marvel Universe however - I hope they don't shoehorn Spidey in though.

Awesome film, pretty clever, and brilliant ending for those not convinced. Must watch :)

[Arlington Road]

Am I right in thinking that it was Tim Robbins' plan right from the start to get Jeff Bridges involved and make him deliver the bomb?

From what I understood, Tim Robbins moved to the property (opposite Jeff Bridges), specifically for the bombing. As soon as the bombing was done, they put the house on sale and are moving out.

Batman Begins (20th time) - Still think this is the best of all the batman movies.

Hijacked - Turned it off after 10 minutes, thought about washing my eyes in bleach.

Twilight Breaking Dawn - Don't know what I was thinking. Laughed a lot though.
