What have you done to your car today?

It’s a pain more than anything having to top up a bit every month. I know it’s still within what BMW class as normal, and I know the M54 engines do like their oil so it doesn’t bother me. There’s no leaks and it’s not like it’s spitting out blue smoke, it’s more just annoying using oil up constantly!

That said, I know the CCV can be a right pain to swap so I think I’ll leave it until a decent dry day. Heard the cold climate one is particularly tricky due to the insulation making everything bigger. Ho hum!

I have a bit of a burning desire to build either a 2zz or a turbo mk3 mr2 sometime in the next couple of years, not sure the ideal time hasn't realistically passed now tho.

Why did you move it on? Loved mine for the brief time I had it. Possibly even more fond of it than my mk2 turbo

I have a poorly Subaru at the moment that can't be driven, so I'm borrowing my brother's Leon Cupra R (MK1).

She's covered some 150k miles. Previous owner spent some money on it to keep it mechanically sound but gave up in the end and sold it to my brother.

This week I've been sorting niggles for him. First was a 'dodgy' fluid warning sensor. Empty washer bottle :D

Next up was a new MAF sensor. Car was running rough with the old one plugged in so he unplugged it - new one in and fault codes gone.

It has a Forge 007P fitted. I had a service kit from back when I had my Octavia vRS so I pulled it out, degreased it and put it all back together. Revised piston too so it should be good for a few thousand miles.

Weekends job is to fix the plug for the NSF brake pad warning sensor. Clip is broken so it keeps working loose and putting the light on.

MAF has improved MPG and performance. Recirc service hasn't helped the recirculating though. I thought it may have been gunked up but that isn't it. Bought a different spring for it which is slightly softer so that should hopefully cure the issue.

Fitted a new Ramair filter to it today, replaced the shoddy eBay one. May tackle the brake pad sensor tomorrow along with a new thermostat as it drops down towards 60degs when on the move, assume its stuck open.

I initially bought it cheap off my parents for economy. I then bought an EP3 CTR to do the same job as the MR2 as I sold an EP3 CTR years ago and wanted another. My other car is an Evo 8 FQ-300 so one had to go. So I use the CTR when I need to travel to work and I use the Evo 8 at the weekends. The 2ZZ is a popular choice but there is a company developing a K20 package which would be a much better way to go.

The company doing the package for the K20 conversion kit include everything you need to fit it. Much more tuning potential too and a much more reliable engine.

This thread has died...? :p

Fitted my K&N Typhoon to the Corolla. The difference is actually pretty incredible. I drove it afterwards fully expecting it to have made little to no difference, but there is an immediately obvious improvement in throttle response, the noise it makes is incredible (and not in a chav way like my E30 exhaust, I mean it actually sounds really nice) - And the butt dyno tells me its slightly quicker, which is probably a placebo effect for the most part, but its one that I welcome. :)

I know the original airbox is restrictive and people have claimed that they actually pick up power with a cone filter, but I just assumed it was all fanciful thinking in the past. Seems that it might not be the case with this car.

It won't make any notewortht power difference, but if you like induction noise and they've got the filter right they can make a pleasant change

People keep saying this but it really does depend on the vehicle in question as to whether its noteworthy or not. Some cars have a remarkably restrictive factory intake, and a decent aftermarket intake can free up a few ponies as well as changing the sound of the engine.

Upgraded the nav to the latest version, fitted new rear number plate lenses, replaced the knackered SmartKey with a new fob (and somehow managed to break the RF signal), replaced the centre console door thingy, washed, cleaned and tidied the interior & mats and tried to tidy up the number plates whilst I wait for the original one to be applied as the DVLA site wouldn't let me put the private plate on retention online. Still needs a service and new tyres too.

Thankfully I planned for some more expenditure on bringing it up to standard.

Got a quote for refurbing the alloys and a scuffed bumper too - £572 :( £82.50 per wheel and £150 for the bumper, plus VAT. Trouble is the place is in a handy location (can walk to work and leave it with them all day) where as everywhere else either requires me to have another car or another set of wheels.

Watched it drive away - for the first time since I was 17, I don’t own a car :o
