What have you done to your car today?

How did they get to know you? Via your forum antics?

Could always be a story on the pain of a project car? :p

Via Facebook. I'd messaged Alex in the past about something or other I think...

Nah its about the Corolla. I suspect it will be an automotive misfits. Since its the hot hatch of the era that nobody ever talks about, mainly I suspect because people paid attention to the incorrect official 0 - 60 stat, which I had a hard time persuading you lot to believe was incorrect, until I posted a time faster than an EP3 Type R at Pod... :p

Yea I'm sure its that and not the availability of better alternatives :p

That is definitely a factor! ;)

However these days they are hard to beat in value for money for a quick hatch from that era. Anything else is in the 4K+ area, whereas you can usually pick up a decent T-Sport for £1500. My particular one being £2250 with a few mods. My old one was £1600 though in rougher condition, bone stock.

As a daily driver I'd take it over an EP3 Type R for example any day of the week, mainly cos auto climate and bits and bobs are better than a fan heater and scratchy plastics.

But as I mentioned in my message to Alex, it isnt particularly inspiring in the handling department. So should make for an interesting video.

"Its half as much money, half as good at handling, just as good in a straight line, and has more features. Should you buy it?"

Well that little TT I bought - Didn't take long for something to go wrong :) Last week the drivers window jammed in the close position (lucky) and was making some hideous noises. Guessed that the regulator was shot so ordered in a £18 cable kit off of ebay to replace the stock regulator cables. Sure enough this is what I found when I ripped it apart today:

I am pretty sure they couldn't have used a cheaper cable if they tried. The kit offered stainless cables, was a bit fiddly but at least I now have working windows! I had all the right tools so the job was really quite easy, an hour and I was done :)

It was clearly bodged to sell the car as the door card had been removed poorly before and some door clips glued back into place. I replaced all the door clips while I was there (they are the same as the ones I bought for the porsche) so had some spare clips on standby. Not sure why they didn't just do it properly and replace the cable. It's so cheap its almost rude not to do a proper fix.

Same has happened to my wife's TT. Got stuck in the open position though a day before one of our storms! Temporarily forced it to close. Brute force for the win. Will have to fix it at some point!

I fixed mine with this kit:

Cheap as chips and saves a pretty penny. Doesn't come with instructions mind and I have a small plastic spacer that was floating around in the bottom of the door and I have no idea where it might go lol. Works though so I really don't care :)

Word of warning adjust the window height with an allen key before putting the door card on otherwise you might find you need to take it all apart again to adjust.

But when you come to sell those other examples you post that “cost more” you

A) have an easier time selling it because of that demand based value working in your favour
B) get a reasonable amount of money for the sale to use on the next car.

Danger now is you are trapped in the cheaper compromised car.

No idea what you are on about really. I bought it because it is what I wanted, its my second one. I missed my old one.

Less money in the daily is more money for the E30/other things. :)

Interesting, thank you!

Interesting, thank you!

A pleasure. It took me around an hour well it would have been an hour if 3 neighbours didn't come and have a look at what I was doing but I have fixed plenty of window regulators in various cars before now and changed gubbings out of one door into another etc. Some people online say its a 2 or 3 hour job but it is pretty easy. You will need a t25 torx, an 8mm, 10mm and 12mm sockets and a few pry tools. There is a trick to getting the cables into place so you will need long nose pliers as well. No video online seemed to show the easy way so if you decide to go this route give me a shout and ill send you some details.

Not today, but had a lot of fun at the weekend. Was driving along a reasonably remote but beautiful area where I live when I hit a pothole that was obscured by some tree shadows. Cue some very interesting banging and grindy noises, something was very wrong, but was in the middle of nowehere and tried to limp home. Unfortunately what followed was one of my AD08's letting go. Coil spring had snapped and further driving had dislodged the sharp part into the tyre. Pulled over and eventually managed to get a space saver on which luckily cleared the broken spring. Now it's time for some very overdue suspension shopping.

Not the worst looking place to break down in:
