What have you done to your car today?

A MK1 import MX5, 1991. Solid sills and arches, coilovers, 6 months MOT, faded red paintwork a-la E30, needs a rear bumper and numberplate panel, and the drivers door lock is jammed. :p

Oh and I bought it without wheels, naturally.

Not 2850 then? :p

Bit of selective reading there. :p

£2200 without various parts.

The wheels which are worth an easy £350
The strut brace which is worth an easy £80
The spare sump pan which I've sold for £40
The ECU which I've sold for £150
The adjustable front drop links which I've sold for £50.

Add it up and you get... £2870 ;) Wheels might even go for more than £350 because my initial asking price was £450. So it could even be north of £2900.

£2850 was my asking price with all that still fitted.

Its going to Northern Ireland and the guy is paying £600 for transportation on top of the £2200 he paid for the car.

So despite fitting brand new coilovers and then selling up pretty much immediately after, I've lost £100 over the year I've owned the car. Put 6000 miles on it as well. :p

So basically then mods don't add value to a car really, which is what we said in the first place :D
yeah, that's pretty much it! modding will rarely if ever increase the value of a car unless it's FI! but then you reduce the market of potential buyers as not everyone is looking for a modified car in general.

In fairness if the man maths above are right it's not a bad return on a cheap car really. Far, far better than the previous efforts (which it sounds a bit like there is about to be a repeat of)

I reckon we have lost in the region of £2.5-3k on the fiesta in the 3 and a half years (and c10k miles) we have had it, and it's not a remotely intersting model.

No, what you said was that its worth 50% of what I was asking... I love how I prove you wrong and you still try and take the high road. ;)

He initially wanted it for £2500 without the wheels but had to change tack when the transport cost came back at £600.
