What have you done to your car today?

A blow torch of some description is far better than any of that rubbish.
had forgotten you had talked about your full diy suspension refresh - with pot-holes etc. I have some trailing arm bushings that need doing -
so prepping these bolts with plusgas/similar and wire brushing them in advance seems prudent for me anyway ... diy'ing re-cutting/hcoil threads would be beyond me.

It's throwing it down with rain so put car out to get wet for an hour then went out and washed it -When finished got a few watering cans of water from Butt and sprinkled it over car to get house water off it and left it in rain- should dry off nice and clean.

Tried removing poorly applied spoiler on the 135i as gently as I could.

Clearly, I wasn’t gentle enough, or something else has happened, as there are now lines on the paint from adhesive strips :(

Don’t think a machine polish would sort it, might need a respray :(

Managed to sort this using a hair dryer and heating up the paint and then letting it cool repeatedly and slowly.

I now can’t see the lines at all, other than some residue from the glue/adhesive.

Seems like it was layers which had separated in the paint or something.

I’ll be machine polishing the car in the near future anyway :-)

Replaced the “HiFi” amplifier/DSP in my BMW the other day.

It’s completely tuneable with time alignment/EQ capability, meaning you can really get the most out of any speakers you put in it.

I also took the opportunity to do some sound deadening in the boot, while all the trim panels were out.

Much better :-)

nice - with what helix/audison ? can you bypass the headunit and send music from phone directly via usb/wifi

freed up bolts on the bush holder, but I'll leave replacement to the garage as tool to remove bushes, without disconnecting arm is £100+ (.. probably a marginal call)
have been getting a metallic clicking, w/o obvious play on ARB/links/bearings

A plug and play Match Up 7BMW :-)

Music currently goes through USB into the head unit, but will be adding CarPlay in the near future.

I’ve seen that there is a system which will use the optical system for audio transfer, rather than the 3.5mm jack on the car

so looks likw the amp takes the 4 speaker inputs from existing HU, de-eq's those and you then uses it's superior eq and amp ?
[as you say seems it has optical and a direct usb option, so can input a higher quality (than HU) bitstream directly into AMP, from phone say;
possibly Tidal HIFI, my favourite. which I'd like in a future car system

  • MATCH Extension Card slot (MEC) for additional input / output modules like Bluetooth® Audio Streaming, High Resolution Audio Streaming via USB etc
  • Optical input in SPDIF format with sampling rate between 12 and 96 kHz
]

Yep, on BMWs with the Hifi sound system the head unit is coded for it so it just passes what is I assume a line level output to the amp, then the stock amp does its thing and that's it. The stock Hifi amp has no control whatsoever unlike the Harman Kardon setup so with the Match Up 7BMW you get a drop in replacement with some EQ config.

Having a fun (not fun) 2nd hand car experience with this Volvo. Hopefully will be resolved within the next few weeks.

Wanted a software update so i can update the maps to the latest version, the update allows free maps. But unfortuantely software update couldn't go through, a few errors are flagged inc an issue with the DAB (works fine though). Turns out the main board that runs pretty much everything in a Volvo of this generation is borked and now properly borked due to the diagnosis work.
So now I have nothing working in the centre console for a couple of weeks until I can get this mainboard replaced. No AC/heating, music, parking sensors etc, nothing.

Funtimes! :@

Put my Personalised plates on the Mini on Saturday

Fitted a replacement bonnet stay clip to the Fiesta on Sunday

Took out Breakdown cover (Start Rescue) for the Mini today

Pretty sure Start Rescue is an aggregator so he likes excitement so much he has no idea who'll turn up (RAC included :D)
wife and daughter use start rescue, it still usually turns up on my drive if its something that needs parts, but most time they can resolve problems at the side of the road, always rac vans.
twice they have had to bring them to the house, once the guy managed to tow it straight up the drive and because it was a transporter type van he drove it inside the garage and we parked the daughters car at the side.
second time guy wouldnt even try to get the car on the drive and ended up dropping it on the main road outside...grr we had to tow it up the drive luckily we had a vehicle with a tow bar .
always polite and unless it my age they must be training them with small hands as some of the repairs were akin to keyhole surgery, zip clips on water pipes behind thermostat housings come to mind:)

Just didn't see the point in paying extortionate amounts for either the AA or RAC.

I've had Fords for a few years and have had Ford Roadside Assistance "included" with my servicing, and before that had introductory "offers" with some of the other cars I'd bought, so hadn't had to worry about "buying" it as such
Fortunately I've not needed Breakdown cover until this point, but £47.50 (with £7 something to come back via Quidco) is a reasonably small price to pay for some kind of piece of mind.

I get RAC cover "worth £99" thrown in with servicing and between that usually manage to get a deal of some sort - I think I've paid less than £100 to have cover on 2 vehicles over the last 4 years.

I went with AA insurance where they throw in the breakdown service at a reduced rate.

Ordered up some new rear bushings from carparts4less, apart from £30 min purchase versus £25 at eurocarparts - is there really and difference in T&C's
(seems CPL maybe 14 day return and euro 60 too)

so you are configuring it with a PC and their software ... and have done some driving in the car with the laptop to stop and try some options ?
I don't appreciate the surround soundish options HK offers, the parametric eq on the 7bmw is also arguably better and what I'm familiar with from Alpine.

Only did a minor thing today upgraded the MK5 mondeo with auto lights for some reason it wasnt standard on the car but its just a case of swapping the light control switch over with one that is compatible and I have auto lights now.

Last major work completed on the Evo

And the final piece of the interior. I had the centre console flocked and it was a really bad job. Had it re-done and was finally able to put the interior to bed - for now at least.
