What have you done to your car today?

We went to a Pistonheads meet yesterday and a purple mk2 MR2 turbo turned up and made me go week at the knees.

I think theyre such under rated cars. You can tune it enough on the standard hardware to make it fast enough for the road and the chassis will keep you entertained forever... oh how much id like one of those again

I would absolutely love another one but they're just too old now to be run every day, if I could convince myself that it'd be reliable enough I'd drop the e46 for another mk2 turbo in a second.

Problem is they've got a real rust tendency these days, need some TLC, many have been modded a step too far and the freshly imported ones are all LOL money for what is an old car now.

Yesterday but meh... my second set of Clarion removal keys turned up so I popped out the old Clarion cassette and stuck in the Alpine CD player out of my wifes old Polo.

Piece of cake job, no wiring needed, all fitted, set my stations, fiddled with the bass and treble a bit, turned the ignition off and lost all the settings. I'd forgotten about VAGs little quirk of putting the permanent live the opposite way round so I took it back out and there it was, yellow into red, red into yellow. Swapped that and I'm now rocking early 00's CD player rather than a mid 90's cassette. :p

Car is booked in for Monday at a nearby BMW specialist to have oil service, brake fluid change and a new slow oil leak investigated. I suspect rocker gasket needs replacing.

Total charge for an hour's labour @ £50 +VAT.

Changed the insurance to my new house address, very boring i know. Though premier choice did have the news/weather/sport on their hold line which i hadnt heard before.

Investigated why the exhaust didn't sound quite right. Second pipe not opening at all, vac in the actuator at all times, even with the engine off
Disconnected it for the time being, have to say, the performance is markedly improved without the exhaust blocked lol.

Something melted whilst in the shut position?

Can you open the flap with the actuator disconnected?

Washed it, dried it off then waxed the complete car in record time using Triplewax Fast Wax. Noticed this stuff in Morrisons for sale the other day for £2.50 a bottle. Thought 'What the hell' and tried it. Ok, so its not up to Meg's standards but for the money it's actually rather damn good. Cracking shine on the car and you could wipe it on and off in your sleep. Should be ok to use each time I wash the car as a top up to the already applied 2 layers of Simoniz Classic Wax (which as I mentioned in the Car Cleaning Thread is superb stuff but a complete biatch to buff off if left too long).

I picked a load of this up dirt cheap to do the Punto over the winter and as you say it shines up ok and is pretty quick to use.

I tried it after washing the car while it was still wet... that doesn't work too well and needs a second buff off so I'll have to get some more Wax it Wet or similar for when I'm in a real rush (or feeling lazy :p )

I had dried the car off after letting it drip for a bit after the last rinse with the hose. The few little beads of water still left and the water hiding in little nooks and crannies between panels were mopped up and blended in with the applicator sponge I used so it didn't really cause much of an issue for me to be honest. :)

Took mine for its conditional service 'vehicle check' and its MOT. Got full air, oil, diesel and microfilter change thrown in along with brake fluid check.

Came to a grand total of £30.00 at Stratstone BMW.

Turns out the guy that had the car before me had a service plan on it! Score!

Got an MOT for the BMW, only advisories were tyres, which are being replaced soon when the other wheels are refurbed.

Not bad at all for 19 years old

Replaced my old and damaged HT leads with some nice shiny Magnecor's and took the opportunity to do plugs at the same time.

Also put my new rear plate on, made the back end even tidier :)

A good reason most people do the golf T mod, keeps the butterfly valve open all of the time, it also means you have more noise at low revs. :)

Yes, I don't know why it stopped working properly though, the butterfly is free and the actuator works, must be to do with the solenoid.
More noise is great if you are a ned, but it's really quite noisy and I regularly drive in the small hours and like to have some consideration for the neighbours. The active silencer is perfect for this.
