What have you done to your car today?

First of all - welcome to the forums dude. :)

There can't be that many Triumph G-T6's in Fife dude - nice pics :D

Cheers for the welcome.

There is another G-T6 under construction in Broxburn near Edinburgh at the moment. This will be a high end build running trick suspension with a Ford EFi engine & 5 speed box. Should be roadworthy if not completely finished sometime in September I hear.

Soon people will be saying you don't see a G-T6 for ages then two come along at once!! :)

Curious, have you got any 'before' pictures of the alloys?. Would be interesting to see how well they look after the refurb.

Yeah I have a few, here's one showing the worst parts of it:

All the paint had bubbled at the edges of the badge and where the wheel nuts were, the other side of the wheel was even worse, practically no paint left!

Have some more shots but was going to do a whole thread on it, hopefully singing their praises, when I get the car back, is due on Wednesday so will keep you posted :)

Fitted some Alloygaters -- best 60 quid I have spent for a while - If anyone values thier wheels fit some of these. Go on Tube and look for them. I have black one's

Really? Why not just not drive into kerbs? They make your nice alloys look silly, and you may as well just put a sign in the window saying 'I can't drive'. Wouldn't be seen dead with that fitted.

Wife can't park very well - had two alloy's refurbished which was waste of time - these look almost like rim protectors on tyres - which are by way 225-40-18 (rubber band tyres) and they cover the scuff marks - cheaper than refurbished.

I see you are in Wulveramtun. :)- Have you seen Merc coupe with blue one's on. ?

8AM drop off to a new specialist in Fareham, remembered the oil and filter this time (forgot yesterday morning and returned home like a berk!) and got a call at 11AM saying it's all done.

They investigated the oil leak I spotted too and found that the previous garage (local specialist) was a bit lazy and didn't tighten the oil filter cap properly and/or deal with the excess around that area when replacing the filter. They cleaned it up, did the service and ran it for a while and noticed no leaks. There is some greasy residue by the sump gasket but no evidence of a leak either. I'll keep my eye on it though from time to time.

This leads me on to what Snows BMW told me needed doing a while back, they said the vac pump needed replacing as well as rocker gasket among a few other bits. The vac pump is not an issue anyway now and this specialist found no rocker gasket issue. So were BMW applying a blanket "do all these things" to cover all bases? The dealer's repair quote was £comedy.

Today's job was labour only so £50+VAT for the investigation and oil service. I like these guys, friendly and one to one bunch.

The car has ticked over 100,000 miles over the past week and I bought it at 42k, I think for the trouble free motoring the engine has given me so far is truly excellent. Apart from the usual coil pack failure there has been no engine troubles at all. I do drive it with mechanical sympathy though, even if working the rev range :)

Now to book the alloy wheel refurb in, they quoted me £35 a wheel for being a previous customer \0/

Got the suspension strut back from the garage, bolted in at the top. It's now mostly in to the hub, but won't seat properly. I've still got about 3-5mm to go before the guide in the rear of the strut is in contact with the hub, it's lined up correctly, but won't budge the last few mm. Even a technical adjuster (hammer) doesn't budge the thing, wedging a screw driver into where the guide lives and jacking the hub up doesn't help either. I've got to use the car the rest of this week and I'm running out of ideas other than just leaving it as is and dropping the car back down to the ground to see if that moves it at all, the other side is spot on.

First and last time I bother with the suspension on this car as I've encountered problems with every little step, I'll just drop it into a garage if it needs anything else doing to it other than brakes and servicing.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say most people don't intentionally drive into kerbs.

Being good at driving/parking doesn't magically exclude you from making the odd costly mistake when parallel parking.

Vox, looking forward to your thread, I still want to take mine in to Lepsons. Going by the job they did on geekman's wheel though I'm already sold on them.

Yeah their normal fee is £50 a wheel^

Booked in for next Thursday :D More excited about this than I should be. Been "thinking" about getting a refurb for far too long now.
