Looks cool, love the orange

Not mine, but was teaching my mate how to jack up the car and change brakes on his car, the dealership wanted £980 for fronts and rears. We did front discs, pads and rear pads, the rear discs were still perfectly fine, all of those parts came out £140. £840 saving, I can see why people call them stealerships, do people actually pay those prices?
It is crazy... BMW wanted 1.1k for front discs on my car. I got TRW discs and pads who are the oem manufacturer for about 300 all in.

Washed
Waxed
Vacuumed
Dash cleaned
All glass cleaned inside and out
Old receipts removed
Back to blacked all trim
Fresh car mats throughout

Any pigeon that comes within 50m will be in a pie veeerrry quickly...

Can anyone suggest a product to protect/rejuvenate a leather steering wheel that's showing its age as I always keep my hands in the same places?

I did my front discs and pads for the first time earlier this year. I managed to get them done much cheaper than the garage wanted, using better parts, including buying a jack and stands! I also now know that swapping the pads with Brembo calipers is one of the easiest jobs there is to do.

I would have loved to do mine on my current car but I have no one to show me how to do it so I'm just too nervous basically! I would have done it when I had a rougher, older car, but on a newer one I'm too scared I'd **** it up. Writing this now, I'm not sure why the age or how fancy the car is matters

I've used leathermaster protection cream for bm steering wheel & gator + living room suite - not for pleather seats though.
never bothered using a cleaner too; currently need to get some of their stuff for feeding a nubuck jacket

Mum's Mk6 GTI was crashed into while the dealer was doing a test drive during the service :(
I'd be amazed if it wasn't written off given the fact it needs an entire new front end, wing, etc.

What sucks the most is that she's lost a car she loves and is stuck with a payout from the insurance company. Does anyone have experience with a case like this - hypothetically, would there be a way to force the garage to fix it, even if the insurance company deems it uneconomical?

Woman in a Merc hit me the other week. Went in for repair on Monday. Damage wasn't bad. Couple of scuffs on the rear bumper and rear drivers side wheel. Easily repairable.

As for the Mk6 GTI. Don't think you can force them? Prices are strong on GTI's at the minute though so should get a good payout.

As long as it's not a Do Not Repair category then you can try and find out who owns the car after it's written off, buy it as salvage and then pay to have it repaired

Been trying to refurbish some alloys the last couple of days, it isn't going very well... weather forecast hasn't quite matched up with reality and the silver paint wasn't all it was cracked up to be (also claimed to be enough to do 4 wheels but in reality about half the amount needed) and gave poor coverage compared to stuff I've used in the past (for stuff other than wheels) which annoyingly wasn't available at the time but I've now ordered a couple of cans of.

Looking like I'm going to have to go back in and sand them back to fix it :s

The amount of wheels I have done in my youth you will never get a good lasting finish with cans.

I really need to crack on and do my Saab wheels. Bought 2 litre (when thinned) tin of silver paint for £21 for my compressor so it is a lot cheaper compared to what you would spend on rattle cans too.

Ironically got a call back just now, only about a month later, from the one mobile refurbisher locally who seemed to tick all the boxes but wasn't responding to attempts to contact :( there is a place who does proper chemical treatment, etc. as well but I don't really want to lug them 12 miles and back (not on the vehicle).

The faulty can of silver has really messed things up though - really need to sand them right back to rectify it which I don't have time for at the moment, though I wasn't looking for perfect just to get them not looking tatty - they are one of 3 sets I use on the vehicle and less often than the others.

I'm always more worried about doing things on my missus's Mini than mine, even though it's much older. The chances of something being seized or stuck are much higher whereas everything seems to come off easily with mine.

Sigh now it started raining despite forecast to be dry, while I had a layer drying... think these are going to be consigned to emergency use and just buy a new set but I don't really need to be storing another set :s they really needed sandblasting + acid dip anyhow though :(

always remember even with insurance...you are the owner of the car until you sign to accept the payout.
if the car is classed as too expensive to repair as long as not cat a or b , you have the choice.
they cannot ship the car to a salvage yard for sale till you say you accept the money.

A few days ago

Door is Aluminium so didn't just dent

Excess £900 so add that to future premiums and doesn't look good, apparently even a crap approved body shop would be close to 3k with new parts

I have an awesome indy near me, we have paid 200 for 2nd hand door and looking at "worst scenario" £1k cash for fitting and paint of whole side

sounds best plan other than watch what the *** you are doing next time :p )

Maybe the garage has some kind of business insurance that they can claim on to get it fixed for you?? Although I think that's unlikely.

Re your insurance, then insurance companies are only ever going to give you a payout, they aren't going to get further involved than that IMO.

Took the car for a service, AM advised £650 to replace the filters to which i said get stuffed, i can do that... so 6 hours and 52 screws later... still be quicker next time!

Also they are literally almost touching the floor so i wont be going through any water!

Put the Outlander into a Mitsubishi authorised dealer for a oil and filter change and thought it'd be a cheap once over and they'd pick it apart.

They did kinda, as they couldn't undo the sump bolt as it'd been silicone sealed in.... New sump required. Asked them to look at balance shafts for wear - big job to take them off the lock, so told them to leave it. Upon replacing sump they noted the balance shafts were not connected. They obviously recommended a refit at £3k+ to which I declined. Stick the sump on and fill it with oil..... Cost me £500 to have sump replaced but the balance shafts have essentially been deleted.
Was going to get gearbox oil replaced but £350 and they wouldn't have even changed the filters as they were £100+ extra so cancelled that as it's pointless changing without the filters. I'll do them myself or get a local garage to do it.
The annoying thing was that I'd booked it in for 8:30 to pick up at 13:00. I queried whether the sump gasket sealant would be ok after such a short period... They then said on the day it'd be best if you could leave it with us overnight.... FFS er no because it's my only vehicle and I cannot get you can't pick me up tomorrow.
Kinda bitter sweet. Stressful day all in all.
