What have you done to your car today?

Don't know hence my initial question, I was thinking of heating it (the solenoid) with a heat gun but don't want to damage the internals, that said, a bottle of petrol and a match is tempting at the moment! :D

It is a tricky one. No doubt someone will come along with a solution, the knowledge on this forum about practically every subject is mind boggling!

Started fitting Powerflex polybushes to my 2nd set of wishbones ready for fitting when the weather brightens up...managed an entire one bush before rage quitting...need to borrow a proper bench vice :D

in process of doing mine i bought 2x lower wishbones to debush and powerflex, got the driver side fitted in the snow, took 2 days as i needed to cut through a lot of bolts and this was the first time doing this sort of thing, came to do the passenger side and got it all cut and in pieces and when i went to fit the new lower wishbone... i found it was bent and would not fit so got a honda s2000 in pieces looking very sorry for itself.

now when the new wishbone comes friday hopefully, got to debush it de-rust and paint and hopefully will go straight on

Don't think so, I didn't spot an AUX connector and the mode button only shows FM/CD and "Tone Link". I have 2x Bsuiness CD units on eBay currently, both are the same. I thought the 2005 model would play MP3 files too but this one does not.

What method did you use to get the bushes out? At the minute I'm just cutting them out as much as possible and bashing with a hammer but it's really hard work, considering borrowing a blow lamp to burn them out!

Dont know how your bushes are but on my lower arms, their was one two piece bush, to get that out i had to put it into a vice and then hit the bush from one end upwards with a metal chisel until it worked itself loose, i then hit the other part of the bush out with the side i had knocked out already down wards with the hammer and chisel, the other side was a pressed in one piece bush with a metal outer collar, rubber inner and a metal sleeve that ran through, i burnt out the rubber using the blow torch and then pushed out the rubber, then i chisel one edge of the inner collar down and knocked out the collar

hope that makes sense

I used and oversized HSS drill bit to drill out the inner metal core, then a junior hacksaw blade through the hole and reattached to the saw handle to cut a 5mm section of the bush out all the way along.

Due to that being removed there was no tension on the bush and they just pushed out

Replaced the head unit.

Went from an old Pioneer P55BT to an MVH560BT. Nice upgrade as the display on the old unit had one dodgy character, much better BT (old one only did calls, not music streaming), much faster iPod and due to lack of CD the unit fitted in a lot easier in front of the various loom and steering wheel control adaptor cables, not bad for £95.

Still having a bitch of a time getting my VANOS solenoid off my M54 engine :/

Tried a strap wrench, no joy, tried grips, spanners and lots of cursing!!

From the photo, you can see the 32mm nut at the left hand edge that's supposed to unscrew, it's stuck tight, as you can see, the nut is just rounding off.

If I put grips on the solenoid body, the body spins but doesn't seem to unscrew, the nut doesn't move though, I fear if I continue to spin it, it'll come out but then have no means of going back in...

Help!

You need to find a specialist who has, or find for sale one of these VANOS Solenoid Socket-83300493363. Maybe a regular 32mm socket will do the job if you can find one deep enough?

It almost looks like a torx head inside, is this an option as it looks fine from that perspective? God knows what size that'll be on a 32mm head though.

The torx head your looking at isn't what I'm trying to remove, its the long silver thing to the right, the threaded nut is directly above the "3" of the "3/2" you can see in the picture.

Tried fixing the break on one of the rear heater demisters. Right in the middle too. Used Granville heater repair paste from Halfrauds, but it didn't work. Cost £11 too! I am going to get some conductive silver paint from Maplins tomorrow.

Anyone have any better ideas on how to repair it?

Youll never get that off with a spanner. You need a 32mm deep socket.

Or get the ring spanner and see if goes from the back on, then double it up for leverage with another spanner.

Just gave it a quick hose down in the dark after a long journey. It was filthy, but managed to get most of the grime off before it dried. Will wash it properly tomorrow.
