What have you done to your car today?

resprayed two of my tyres today with plastidip and fitted my new nuts.
Also tried to replace this since its an advisory and I can do it myself, but was solid. Any recommendations on making this easier to get off?

Gotta love your car Andy, must be a right hoot, some nice touches you've done - simple things like MK4 dials.

Sounds good too!

Thanks! Not a lot of people seem to really appreciate it (not that I'm really bothered!), but they just see it as a crappy old Astra, which it is in a way, but I love it, especially when surprising some very new and expensive cars :D

Thanks though, it's the little touches I like, many many retrofitted items from all sorts of cars! Mk4 dials, cruise control, BMW auto-dim rear view mirror, things like that, makes it quite nice to drive for what it is really.

And yes I love the sound, 3" turbo back exhaust gives a good bark! Gave it a tickle of throttle and it pops and burbles real good :)

Got my 23 year old MX5 a fresh MOT for £25! An advisory on a worn drop link.

That's good going! As for the drop link bolts, you can try giving them a good wire brushing down and lots of penetrating oil should get them free.

Love it :D

Tried some colder plugs in the Cooper S, NGK BKR7EIX and the difference is unbelievable. It always used to stutter ever so slightly under certain conditions... I initially tried fixing it with a service which included the BKR6EIX to no avail. Then when I put a smaller supercharger pulley on the issue got worse. Seems it just wanted to run a touch cooler, maybe it's crying out for a JCW intercooler now. Who knows...

Also did the clutch, BMW wanted £220+ so went to the local MF and picked up and LUK with throwout brg for <£90... 8 hours later and job done, Traction control could do with dumbing down a little though, kicks in in 2nd now :/

Nearly 2 years on and still love the car :)

Oh and I bought a Gunson Eezi Bleed and some Castrol DOT4, made replacing the brake fluid an absolute doddle. Haven't really given it any hammer though as I hate cleaning the white wheels :D

The final pieces of my fuse and wire tap faff arrived today. Tomorrow will be a faff filled day taking the many glove box screws out and tapping stuff.

Gonna tap into five slot 3 which is live on ignition, 5A only but that's more than enough for my uses.

Done the annoying job of changing the air filter on the 320D E90, I hate that job, it should be a 5 min job, not in these models

Also changed the microfilter.

Where do you find out/book onto the sprint days? I fancy Curborough myself, cheaper than a full track day and likely to be a bit easier on the car generally :)

You just need to know the organisers, the days are almost all privately run and there is no list published by the track owner. Today was run by a group from coordsport, there is another one 2 weeks today. There's another day tomorrow by some GTI club or other, another day, that's all the detail I know.
FWIW, it costs £650 to hire the track for the day, so it would be viable to run a day for 10-15 cars off here if there was the interest.

Waiting on some discs and pads coming through before doing the service proper on the P38, so just changed the MAF and air / cabin filters while I wait....

Fiddled with the Fuel Cut out switch and some Relays after the Fiesta wouldn't start. Also rang up to get a replacement Windscreen fitted, but can't arrange anything until Tuesday.

Quick wash and some new wheels fitted. Had to bin the stupid metric wheels, tyres are a pain to find and hideously expensive for a 20 year old design. 5 BMW style 5's with 4 Firestones with <500 miles on them for £280, I couldnt say no. Bit more road noise with these but they'll do fine for now.
Low profile tyres be damned! :D

I do need some tyre shine and back to black on the plastic trims it seems :o

That was a bit of faff, all sorted now though. 12v socket installed and managed to tuck away a cable that came loose causing a tapping noise behind the glovebox too.

MRK! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?

Why have you shoved all that in the glovebox? :p

I was expecting you to lose all the wiring inside the dashboard somewhere. And that USB cable, I mean, you could buy a spare gearstick surround trim, and retrofit a USB port in it or something, or perhaps lead it into the centre console storage compartment and mount it there. :D

Interior is next thing on the list for a cleanup, will post some pics when that's done.:) It's a 525i automatic. Just under 62k on the clock. I still find it hard to believe how well put together it is and just how it drives so well for a ~20 year old car. Was considering a manual conversion but the auto suits the waftyness of it so well, that and longer gearing in the auto means less revs on the motorway which I like.

Why would I retrofit a USB socket on the console somewhere when it is neatly tucked into the glovebox? :p

The socket wiring will be cable tied later, it's for the dashcam and/or additional socket for charging devices. No need to make it ultra neat in the glovebox, it's out of sight anyway.
