What have you done to your car today?

Took it for its MOT, passed with flying colours. :)

One advisory, for a seeping power steering hose joint. Meh. :p

I'm not sure passing with advisories counts as "with flying colours" :p

I took mine for an MOT this morning as it happens, which it did pass with flying colours ;)

Also done a few servicing bits and pieces on my girlfriend's Auris.

Realised yesterday that my rear tyres weren't holding air any more - took it to my tyre place this morning. They cleaned up the inside ( refurb was on the face only), repaired a puncture on one and noted a temporary repair on the other.

Washed it and could hear hissing from both rear valves and one of the fronts. So back to the tyre place - new bridgestones going on the front, michelins which are on the front atm are going to the rear but getting new valves. Goddamnit.

Oh and as I left to walk down to macdonalds to drown my sorrows in carbs, a bird did a colossal **** all over the bonnet and window that I had just cleaned. Sums up today really

Or the bonnet in this case

I had wanted to try different tyres on the front anyway, the PS3s are great in the dry but in the wet its ESP mania until you're passing the NSL. Would have liked more choice, was tempted to put the F1AS2 on or try the Ultrac Sessanta - but the bridgestones were the only premium tyre they had in stock in the right size so we'll see if those fare any better :)

Never experienced a non specialist Bridgestone that didn't suck so good luck with that, surprised you didn't call ahead and order in the tyres you wanted, relying on stock is always a recipe for disappointment.

A gleaming beacon of positivity as always. Reviews of the S001 seem pretty decent so we'll see how it goes

You must have missed the part about being quite urgent - the dunlops were losing air at an alarming rate.

Most decent tyre places can get whatever you (Within reason, perhaps not a Pilot Sport Cup for a 911 GT3) want next day, even on a Saturday morning.

I'm sure they'll be fine but you seemed like you were looking for an improvement over your Pilot Sport 3. I doubt they'll offer that - they came flat last in the last Evo tyre test.

The home advantage counting for nothing, the Bridgestone S001 finished last, struggling in both the subjective and measured tests

Beaten in the Wet by the PS3 (Which was 5 places above it), the very tyre you've complained about.. in the wet :p

Most of the good reviews for them were back in 2010 when they were up against much older tyres like the PS2, old F1, etc. Like I said, hardly a terrible tyre but likely not the improvement you were after. A shame you couldnt pump those Dunlops up one last time and order one of the newer generation of tyres. It's always a pain when you have to rely on whatever the tyre place has in stock.

Missed this.. Is this really the case?! Even the ditchfinders my car used to have weren't THAT bad once you got up a bit of speed. Well... not quite that bad anyway.

I can nail it as hard as I want in the wet with my Conti SC5s (best tyre ever <3) and I don't have any traction issues (once off the line) :)

They could indeed get whatever I want the next working day, but they're not open tomorrow and I have about 600 miles to do on Monday. I didn't want to shop around as I've had too many bad experiences with random tyre fitters - these guys I trust and use them whenever I need tyres or alignment.

If they're worse than the PS3 then I'll rotate them back, the michelins only have about 2500 miles on them. I only rotated them because I wanted to see if they suited the car any better. They're (apparently) the OEM tyre for the Enzo, LFA and 997 so I'm sure they're not horrible ditch finders :p

I would actually be curious what you'd suggest as a better tyre for wet grip than the PS3 though.

Eagle F1 A2, Continental SportContact 5, Pilot Super Sport (Probably? Though it's more dry biased IIRC?) etc would all be better than PS3 for wet grip.

The S001 are not horrible ditch finders but the entire point is that you complained that you were unhappy with the level of performance the PS3 offered in the wet - but the S001 has inferior wet performance, so...

With foot to the floor, absolutely. It's completely controllable but the ESP light flickers away. In the dry they grip really hard though. Each car is different though, yours is heavier and less powerful (?) - the power delivery in mine is pretty sudden, probably due to how the map has been done so I wonder if that just doesn't match the michelins very well

The F1A2 was going to be my go-to under normal circumstances. I wasn't happy with the wear rate of the SC2 I was using on the pug so ive been put off trying the SC5.

Remember I didn't replace them in order to try and get better wet grip. I had to replace the dunlops on the rear so figures I may as well give them a shot on the front.
