Had a quick go with some newly-acquired Autosol on my exhaust tips too - works really well. Need to go over them properly sometime.

Your terminology is all wrong, but I know, and I will test drive one, but I also wan't a car which sounds good....... :p

May also test drive an Octy VRS/Leon FR.

Shame I didn't make it to the meet, you could have had a go in mine - it wasn't much more money than that Toyota and is much quicker!



Only downside of larger displacement is fuel economy but in pure driving terms a larger displacement 6 cylinder is definitely better - nicer noise too :)

There was a Leon FR at the meet (mine :p). With a little more forethought he could have looked around mine :D

Today, I sprayed my vent as it appeared to have went back to the bare metal but now the mesh over it is the issue and also got a new battery as the old one was slowly dying.

No idea what do to with the mashed hard pipe, I don't fancy buying a new one from HKS.

Exactly. I thought it was pretty obvious that I meant T-Sports, but as always Fox jumped at the chance to be a pedant. :p
 
They didn't sell in massive numbers because they are not very good. I'm sorry but its that simple - it was a mass market, affordable car designed to sell in large volumes and it didn't, it is therefore objectively a failure in the UK. It wasn't rare because it had high running costs. It wasn't rare because it was limited production. It wasn't rare because the market it was competing in was small (Honda sold many Civics, Ford sold many Focus). It was rare because compared to the choices it just wasn't very good.

The Corolla is the worlds best selling car because it sells in large numbers in markets where reliability and practicality are the number 1 concern when choosing a car. Generally the UK market isn't like this - style, performance, perceived quality, driving experience etc tend to be higher up peoples priority lists, so as a result, nobody bought a Toyota Corolla.

The name was so synonymous with completely bland motoring nobody wanted they even gave it a brand new name in 2008 despite not doing the same thing to the same car in the rest of the world yet still nobody cared.

By that logic I suppose you think that the Celica T-Sport/GT is also rubbish, given that it shares the same platform?

I expect it was more to do with the fact that it didn't spring immediately to mind when people wanted to go out and buy a hot hatch, so it got overlooked.

Probably because every time they read a hot hatch roundup it was flat last (Pre facelift at least).

Honda started from the same zero-base position with the Civic Type R - it was the first attempt at selling a Civic Type R to the UK market, it was just as relatively unknown outside of enthusiast circles.
 
I'm not looking pre-facelift, I'm looking post-facelift, which has the better suspension/handling and much improved styling.

I doubt it would have been a flat last either. The ST170 was hardly an exciting car. It may have handled a bit better, but that is about it, the Golf GTI of the era was a total flop, The EP3 is only just quicker than the T-Sport and was much more expensive, etc.

Acme, if you want a Corolla T-Sport don't get one, just get an EP3 CTR.

The CTR may be better, but I don't want one... Even if I did, the insurance is about twice as much because everyone crashes them.

A good EP3 would also cost much more than a good T-Sport.

no the corolla t sport really just wasn't very good compared to the alternatives. It has some merits which made some choose it over the alternatives, just as some would never have even tried the alternatives to know if they were better or not. If your looking for a more comfortable and quieter car then it certainly ticks those boxes.

Ok I never tried the facelift to see if the suspension tweaks made much difference, I don't believe though it would have changed perception of the car very much though, there were quite a few things that really needed to be changed that weren't on the facelift like the gearing, seats, steering etc.
 
A good EP3 costs more because it's a far superior car in every aspect. Test drive an EP3 and I guarantee you'll want one. My brother has my old EP3 and it's still going strong with 110k miles on it.
 
Unfortunately some people would rather make their mind up based on reading stats/ opinions of a few people online rather than just trying a car and its competitors.

Who knows, maybe he would just prefer it to everything else that's a viable alternative. I can personally see why you wouldn't want an ep3 despite how good a package they are - but I would probably never buy one anyway.

You might decide if you actually drive a golf or Leon Cupra from that era that you quite like them, or that a 330ci/325ti is sensible to insure and you aren't fussed about tinkering, or that actually a celica just looks much, much better etc etc
 
The only reason I can think of for not buying an EP3 is because of the image. It never really bothered me though because I used to drive a Yaris T-Sport before it!
 
I'd just buy an integra tbh, but that's not exactly comparable as I'd be spending much more money.

They are a bit of an idiot magnet in the west of Scotland (as you'll know), so the image would definitely put me off if I could only just afford one

...that and the fact I'd just buy a 330

Are you making that assumption based upon that one car meet - which I note you were also at - at which I reved my car to about 4K once or twice to amuse some people..?

I can assure you that I have no interest in sitting around in car parks "bouncing my engine off the rev limiter". I don't even know if my car has a rev limiter...

I do plan on trying a Leon 2.0TFSI :) Though I'd have to do something about that centre-dash. Eugh. :p
