What have you done to your car today?

Fitted some new Bosch Aerotwin wiper blades, MUCH better at clearing the water. I think the others were original... They didn't do a very good job that's for sure! Also, realised the smaller of the 2 didn't have a cover. So that's another £7 on the ol' ebay haha.

Other than that, just packed up the 4m bell tent, airbed, coolbox, table etc in the boot. Ready for a mini camping trip this weekend!

Haha take it acme didn't buy the new car? I knew it, sure I posted some kind of comment that it won't happen :D

Acme you n that polo are meant to be mate. Just accept it :p

took the wheels off. cleaned up and applied some gtechniq c5 sealent
cleaned under the wheel arches and painted the callipers. been a busy day.

Had it up on the ramps putting my backboxes back on (for a quiet life) and had a play with the centre propshaft bearing - yeap, thats buggered!

Correct! But it is because there was a long list of things wrong with it, and the stealer wouldn't budge on price at all... Its not because I didn't desperately want it :(

-Most of the consumables needed replacing soon (rear disks, front and rear pads, all tyres)
-He didn't know if the clutch had been done and I didn't feel like sifting through the stack of service history
-Lots of cosmetic bits and bobs which he tried to hide from me
-The heater wouldn't blow hot (there is a known issue with the heater matrix on some of these)
-There was an intrusive whine I could hear in third gear at low revs which he claimed not to be able to hear

Despite all this he wouldn't budge more than £100 despite standing around for 20 minutes trying to get the price down, so I walked away.

Of course he took this opportunity to call me various names for "wasting his time"

Tried and failed to remove the spark plugs on my motor. I'm not a mechanic but I feel they have been over tightened, I'm comparing it to my last car.

Reason I want to change them is because the revs are "hunting" at idle so thought I would give these a go as it is about 10 quids worth. Been recommended by the stealer to take it to main dealer for a diagnostic but at 90 quid for them to possibly tell me all is fine I think I will leave it.

The air flow sensor has been cleaned and looks in good nick so to me I think it could be spark or coils/cables

Unbolted the tub of the mk2. Bloody farmer mechanics. Lots of welds and random bolts from the farm. All done though.

Well yesterday I took the MX5 out for a spin for the first time in a month. About a mile from home I pulled out of a junction and nearly stalled, with on coming traffic I gave it a bit of beans and got it going with a chirp of the tyres. Half a mile from home and the clutch had half a pedal of travel before anything happened and it was biting right at the bottom. Pull on to my drive and put the clutch down... this thing ain't stopping!

Jumped on the brakes and with my foot hard on the clutch it was juddering. Shifted it back on to the road and parked it up by which time the clutch did nothing at all. Dead slave cylinder. New one is only just over £15 so no big deal assuming I can spanner it in place. Car is now stuck on the road until next weekend.

Yeah, not starting so I was pushing it round the drive to maneuver it into the garage, however apparently my drive has a slight gradient so the car ran away from me.

Pulled it out with one of my working cars.

If you haven't done it before and you are looking at the offering from MX5parts - depending on the model you have the fitment can be incorrect - the port for the line - the angle is different for some models - read the reviews

Attempted to diagnose a new clunk from the front...seems symptomatic of an ARB drop link (happens at low speed when the front of the car rolls over uneven ground, not speedbumps etc), but those were replaced in Jan 14 by the previous owner....debating whether to buy 2 new ones and try it as it's such a simple job, or hand it over to a garage for further investigation. Couldn't find any play in anything when I jacked it up and a lot of the suspension is less than 2 years old anyway!

Did find some CV joint grease blobs around one side, the boot isnt split though - seems to be coming out the inside edge so might just need a new clip.

How are the ARB bushes? If they're really, really worn they could cause a knocking - I'd expect the car to wallow about a lot to go with it though.

Used to be a pain to replace on vag's but should just be push on now? Cheap parts too

Weren't easily visible without a ramp but what I could see looked fine - I did grab the end of the ARB and gave it a good wiggle and couldnt feel any movement. Tried to get a bar in between it and the wishbone to prise it and even then it wouldnt budge
