Watched my old and dead 9-5 Aero estate go off to a Saab specialist scrapper where bits of it will hopefully keep other cars on the road.

Got another 12 months ticket on my Elise and so took it for a drive.

Tried to jump start it from a jump pack which didnt have enough "go" in it, had to call AA out who got it going but the read outs on the battery test werent good :(

New battery fitted and £40 worth of petrol put in it and all seems good. Just have to use it more often I guess to keep the battery charged!

Used IRON X to clear off the rest of the brake dust debris. I had used clay and polish up to the line you can see but it was so slow and hard work. Literally rinsed 90% of it off! Superb stuff. Did the rest of the car side.

Pads got low with no warning as the tab wasn't fitted correctly and it soon ate into the disc material leaving it trailing down the car side.

Luck is needed. :p

I finally figured out what was wrong with mine :D
After changing plugs. Checking coil packs. Injector resistor. Buying new injectors. Buying the worlds most expensive lamda sensor.
It turned out to be the MAF sensor. The little honeycomb bit had broke and was touching the sensor.
Bloody cars!

Last weekend I stripped down a second set of headlamps and rebuilt them to be fully manual adjust so they can actually be aimed. Fitted them and now I have a pair of matching smoked smiley head lamps instead of one clear smiley and one clear bullseye.

Today I went about removing the roof cover release handle and replaced it with a second hand unit. Turns out that the handles are the same as the interior door handles. I scrapped the touring not knowing this, if I had known I'd have taken the handles from that. :(

Still, now I have a properly working and unbroken release for the roof cover which is what matters....but not in this rain.

Drunken badger punching
Started changing the water pump and thermostat on my wife's E39. I have learned the following:

- The coolant drain plug in the block is an absolute beast to reach, but once you know the trick it's not too bad.

- Copper slip all mating interfaces (water pump pulley was corroded to the old pump despite being plastic).

- Do the job in the dry, seriously (duh). It was warm and sunny when I started, with forecast light showers. I gave up when I started shivering and found the only dry piece of clothing on me to be half of one of my socks (light showers my arse). Lying in a puddle is not fun or clever.

I have now got to refit everything (including the new bits), but am waiting until it's dry tomorrow. Should be a piece of cake.

Agreed, there's few things more miserable than working on a car outside in the rain.

190 miles @ 39.7mpg to get konis for the m3. Driving at normal speeds, cruise control set at 75 for most of it. Also heavy traffic in reading town centre, epic for a 1.8t 13 year and 200k mile old golf

Im using them with the original springs. If I do decide to change them I'm most likely to go for eibach pro or HR sport. I don't want to go too far from original with this car

Well I'm well happy with mine, Most noticeable thing is how quick they get the wheel back on the ground & settle things when upset. I've got some under bracing to go on next week which should make them work even more.

On Topic.

Taxed my 5 online just now,I have to say taxing your motor online is one of the best things about the interwebs.
