What have you done to your car today?

Well if I do that and all the bits it actually needs mentioned on the last page that'd be over a grand.

The car isn't worth that much to me to justify it. They ride and handle great standard for a road car, it's just the huge arch gap I hate :)

My B8 shocks arrived and I managed to get a discount on some B8 rears.
Also new top mounts all round.

I'm going to try and fit a few hours in on Sunday and change the fronts. Then next weekend the rears

Not specifically today but after doing 320 miles to Norfolk for a few days and home again I've put 500 miles on it this week.

Even managed to return around 38mpg over the whole lot, slightly cheated on the fuel economy for the Norfolk trip as I switched to a low boost eco map

Took it for an MOT. Passed with 0 advisories for the 3rd time in a row which isn't bad for smashing 30k+ miles on it each year.

Ordered another 25L of de-ionised water & 25L of methanol to self mix. The last 50L lasted about 10k miles so averaging 1L every 200 miles (or one 5L "tank" a month) - Full throttle is fun :D

De-Ionised water is slightly purer than Distilled as organic substances with a similar boiling point to water can slip through during distillation but not de-ionisation.

To be fair either is usable and both cost the same so I could swap if I needed to.

Today, i've also given the throttle body a bit of a clean. The Mini throttle felt a bit inconsistent every now and then, which was obvious when moving off as you had to make micro adjustments to the throttle to stop it from over/under revving. I just thought it was a characteristic of the car tbh. Recently though, I'd notice that the car would have a small "lump" or jerk when pressing the gas/lifting off. It wasn't anything major, but just made it hard to drive smoothly and was difficult to smoothly modulate the throttle in the corners. I thought i'd give the TB a clean, and it was quite dirty tbh.

The difference is very clear indeed. The throttle is massively smoother now and it's so much easier to drive smoothly. I've never really understood what cleaning the TB does, afterall, why does an oily/dirty throttle body stop a car from running smoothly? I still don't understand why it makes a difference, but I can say without a shadow of doubt - it really does. I forgot to take after photos, but take it from me - it's just very clean and shiny.

A pretty easy job too. The only challenging bit may be doing up the CLIC-R clips again on the air intake hoses, but if you've got the correct tool like I have, this becomes very easy.

My poor nephew had someone pull out in front of him today. Car is a write off and he's only been on the road four weeks.

I've handed him the vaseline in preparation for him being done over by the insurance company in three or four different ways.

I was under the impression distilled was better from when I used to use it in my computers... deionised would always grow green stuff.

The company that supplies mine uses distilled water to start with so I'm double safe, plus the Methanol helps too :D

Had her on the rollers today to get a baseline number before I start properly playing with it.

Not too shabby.

Also, yesterday I changed the N80 valve after a check engine light appeared on Wednesday. Looks to have worked thus far.

Woke up this morning and realised I'd not enjoyed the fun of 'detailing' my car for years.

Yea, now I know why. What a faff.

Indeed, I'm actually getting tired of keeping my white one.. white..
Only takes 3-4 days driving before there's a layer of dust/black specks from rain.
Might put it back up for sale and grab a much cheaper and standard black one.
