What have you done to your car today?

As lovely as it is, don't try and delude yourself that it's massively different in engine refinement over the b8/8.5.

The interior quality is about the same (build quality, not looks or layout), the drive feels slightly less detached (but still not exactly a "drivers" car), and the infotainment is (iPad aside) a massive step up.

I'm anything but delusional. I posted on here a few months back about a brand new B8.5 I had as a loan car a few months back, and it's the only car I've wanted to use auto stop/start in because the 2.0 TDi made the entire cabin vibrate (seats, steering wheel, door pulls etc), and not just a little bit. It was truly awful.

Nearly did some serious damage. Came off motorway, going round a roundabout, possibly a little quickly and the car hugely stepped out as the road sloped toward the outside. Anymore and the car would have spun around. Traction control didn't come on at all. Just about managed to catch it!

We get it. You don't like it. You've said it twice now.

Yes I would have preferred the V6 diesel or the 252PS petrol but they simply do not exist with this level of spec, let alone for the price I wanted to pay. It's a refined engine and a far cry from the B8/B8.5 era.

So why didn't you get something with a decent engine that you could afford? It just comes across as look at me in my audi. I'm sure it looks and feels great but especially coming from a Audi S1 the performance must get tiring after a while?

I live and work within the M25. It took me an hour to do 7.2 miles today. As much as any petrolhead loves performance I just can't use it most of the time whereas the S-Tronic and traffic jam assist are things that will benefit me daily. The A4 is no rocketship, but it certainly got me above the speed limit today on the M3 in an acceptable amount of time.

Swapped the supercharger pulley on the MX5 for a 17% reduction pulley, as decided I wanted a bit more power, and it doesn't cost too much.

Was a pretty simple swap, took a minute to pull the old one off, then about the same again to fit the new one, then just had to find out what belt I needed and buy one!

After that took it out for a quick drive to make sure everything seems ok with the mapping. Luckily no odd noises, and not much needed to be changed on the map, as it had been roughly mapped for higher boost anyway.

Mid range definitely has more torque, top end a little more, but then a proper tune will likely release more.

Picture below shows the size difference in pulleys, the new one fits inside the standard one.

replaced the DRL's with white light bulbs, comes with xenon headlights and warm yellow DRL's as standard, looked absolutely ridiculous as they're seperate. Was really annoying me but not any longer!

Looks pretty nice now imo. Not certain what I want to do next, prob either new turbo recirc valve to replace the stock easily breakable one or refurb the alloys.

Got some parts I've been waiting on for a bit and was able to do a quick first start on the 1JZ.

Need to finish the intake and intercooler plumbing, followed by tidying up of some electrics this weekend.

Happy with how she sounds already, quite loud with no exhaust

quick question, insurance wise.

Say you buy a car and you own another car.

said other car is covered fully comp with permission to drive other cars third party fire and theft cover.

so if I go and collect the car I bought, can I just drive it back with third party cover? or does the fact that I now have "just" bought the car means I can't drive it anymore?

it's very vague, tempted to call my insurer and ask

No, you can't drive a second car you own. You need to insure it properly for the year or get temporary cover for when you're driving it.

that makes sense, wording is a bit off tho from my POV. But so I thought.

temporary cover on a performance car? not going to happen.

:o

Exactly, almost all 'other car' cover extensions will exclude cars owned by yourself, most also exclude cars registered at the same address. You could get a mate to drive it back for you, but with this cover usually being TPO that's a risk you would have to take.

yup my main confusion bit was the fact that the car would have been just paid for so as far as logbooks, insurance db, tax etc cares it is still all previous owner.

but if that can't be done I can just insure it fully on the day.

To get a mate to drive it back on his insurance would still be a no as the car would still require a policy on it to be driven by someone else's 'driver other cars' cover extension.

Once you have bought the car it is legally yours. Never mind what it says on the log book, it is not proof of ownership.
