What is the oldest game you still play?

Nethack. It's been out since 1987, but I'm a recent arrival as I've only been playing it since 1990. Still probably the most complex and frustrating game out there, and better than Angband and the other clones.

I think the oldest game that I play on a semi-regular basis is Need For Speed: Porsche Challenge which is from about 2000 and still one of the best handling games I've ever played. I sometimes still have a blast on Quake or Quake 2 when I go home and the PC can't handle any more recent games, if I still had my Atari ST then I'd be playing Supercars II, the only game that I actually really want to play again and haven't yet.

I think Nethack had similar roots to Angband (Hack / Moria I believe?), but Angband appeared slightly earlier, so it doesn't really count as a clone. Each to their own, but I prefer the best *band clones to Nethack, which I've tried many times but never got into :)

For me it's Motorhead , released 7 years ago :eek:

It runs at >350fps with 8x Supersampling AA/16xAF at 1280*1024 :p

I remember being blown away by the graphics in the beginning but now they are just ugly and very little detail, when I look at such a game it makes me think how fast development in the computer industry and videocards has been.

Still play that same game, ok as a single player but online is just fab!! Best game I have ever played!!!!

Ah, the nostalgia rush...:p

Seriously though, remakes and new versions shouldn't count you cheats, only originals or on emulated hardware! I play Nethack too, but it's version 3.4.3 for Windows for crying out loud!:D And I have a Pacman clone on my mobile but it's not the real thing even though it looks identical!

Oldest stuff I'm likely to play these days is the occassional bout of Golden Axe on Mame (1989), or a complete marathon replay through one of the classic Lucasarts or Sierra adventure games of yore (currently 1/3 of the way through LSL2 from 1988).

what he said, eg all remakes of street fighter are crud. go play it on snes or even better an arcade of Street fighter alpha 2. Though X-men Vs Street fighter beats them all

Angband = 1990,

Nethack = 1987.

But you are correct it's not really a clone: both are linear descendants of Eye of Larn via differnet routes.

Sorry, I was thinking of the original version of Moria, which dated from 1985. Apologies :)

UNREAL TOURNAMENT 99 !!!

Still brilliant, I haven't found a game which comes any where near this ones fast paced action gameplay, if there are any newer games out there with a similar style gameplay please let me know!

I am getting a bit bored of the graphics with UT99, it does not really put my 7800GT to the test though this card really does make it shine!
