What retro things have you done today?

Got 3 PCI and 3 ISA slots which have never been used, is it a good idea to spray contact cleaner in them?
I’d be inclined to test them as-is with a diag card (POST card) as this will show you if the rails are good, and assuming you can watch the POST procedure properly on the card in each of the slots then you are golden. I’d only add contact cleaner or DeOxit if you have issues. Unless of course you can see corrosion.

Makes sense, thanks.

First two PCI slots will not display a post screen with a video card in, even with onboard disabled, card works fine in 3rd or 4th slot, however first works for a SB Live card.

That’s more likely to be a resource conflict then if the slot works fine for some cards. I’d imagine being a pre-SS7 board then it’s resource management is going to be sketchy at best even if it does have a semblance of plug ‘n’ play in the BIOS.

Figures, shared IRQ with something else no doubt, it does have P&P in the bios, some more messing around needed i think!

Last piece of the Shuttle SK22G2 V2 jigsaw arrived in the form of the 4GB (2x2GB) Mushkin DDR2 6400. Has upped my 3DMark03 score by almost 3000, which sounds a lot, but considering the score was 32,000 to begin with...

If anyone wants a Cheap(ish) AWE64 Gold with 12mb ram card then buy this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pentium-PC-DOS-Gaming/264748578504?hash=item3da43eb6c8:g:~WoAAOSwOJVe00~E

And resell the remaining PC, other golds are currently listed for £200 - £250.
Shame there’s nothing unique or interesting about any other part of that PC, could prove hard to shift once the AWE64 is out of it!

Would need to be broken for parts probably then scrap the case, not sure how it would work out money wise, Buy now prices for AWE Golds seem very high vs the £100 some have sold for on auction.

In other news, just installed the 233mmx, just a slight performance boost vs the Pr200....

Also switching to a supermicro psu which came with a server case, much better as less leads etc, need to remove the sata plugs and re-terminate with molex.

I wouldnt scrap that case I would pay a few quid to have it!

Look at his other/past items. He knows what he has. Also some negative feedback on an awe64 gold..

Its amazing how quickly the tech scales.. Your Shuttle is getting 10x more points than me :D

Having a nightmare getting the SB Live 5.1 to work in DOS, SB16 emulation is configured correctly, IRQ is not shared with anything else, yet load Duke3d and the program refuses to find the soundcard.

Using the vxd drivers at the moment, just about to switch to the retail cd drivers see if that is better.

Golds are stupid money now. They ain't even that good. I paid £20 for mine. The CT3600 is just as good and doesn't cost half as much.

AWE32 is a good card, I have the CT3980. It's a long-un! Good thing about that card is gen Yamaha OPL3 and wavetable header. 30pin Simms are a bit of a pain, but you can't use custom soundbanks in DOS so its kinda a moot point anyways.

Bog standard AWE64 is fine for dos gaming, you can even swap the 1mb onboard ram with a 4mb memory module if you can de-solder so it effectively becomes a gold then.
