What retro things have you done today?

Both good, lets discuss in a few weeks, got too much on at the moment to do much about it.

This badboy turned up today, not had a diskette box for a long long time.

Wow, a diskette box! Problem is I’ve got over 400 floppies with stuff on them! This is why Gotek and image the old floppies made more sense! The floppy box is WAAAAY cooler though!

And yeah sure, drop me a line when you want to discuss :)

Won my Athlon XP era soundcard today, an Audigy Platinum EX, boxed and UNUSED with all the cables still sealed and the IR sensor on the breakout box still has the film on it! £24.50! Result! Might have to write up a full unboxing and review just in case a site does end up going live!

Fantastic buy that, i have a second GTXP turning up which is fully boxed.

Just found the original receipt for the diskette box, purchased for Woolworths on the 08/01/94, £3.49 never used, its destiny shall now be fulfilled.

I like the idea of this website :)
Also that 3.49 seems like a good investment as they arent that cheap now.

Thought I would share some pics of my adlib clone. Certainly not the cleanest soldering work ever and there are a few where the solder didnt quite fill the holes but still made a nice connection as there are pads on both sides. Really quite pleased with it.

Oh wow! I discovered my boxes a (two old dual boxes) during a house move.

Amazingly, many disks work! I'm a lurker on Vogons and a poster shared some pictures of bespoke CD's they printed. They did look good.

I have a plan to *borrow* that idea and apply to some old diskettes. Print some artwork labels on old blank disks and make some retro chic wall or desk ornaments. Well that's the plan! Etsy here I come :D:p

Blame the solder, :D were you using the lead-free stuff? It's terrible, some extra flux can help clean up the solder joints and fill up the holes nicely also some nice lead solder 60/40 stuff does the job. have you tested it out yet sound good?

Yes mate used it a few times now sounds great!

Good work on the Adlib!

Purchased some 4gb CF cards to try in the S7 machine, so that's 32,8,4,1 drives i've tried now, only the 1gb drive will let me get past "Verifying DMI pool data" the rest just hang.

The board should support 8gb drives at least so no idea what is going on.

That is odd. I know boards will typically have an 8GB or 32GB limit (hence some IDE drives having a 32GB clip jumper setting). But the 1, 4 and 8GB cards should be fine.

What adapters are you using and are you sharing a cable with a CD-ROM drive? Have you tried just the CF card as Master or CS?

EDIT: Also what brand of CF cards are you using, Adrian Black (Adrian's digital basement) has had major problems with some brands of CF card.

I am sure I read somewhere that some CF cards do not organise data in the expected way and will not work the way we need them to in PCs

So the working card is one of my old Kingston 1gb ones, also got two Transcend 4gb 133x and 8gb version of the same thing and a 32gb SanDisk extreme.

I know LGR and perhaps Retromancave use the 133x Transcend cards, so they at leask should be fine!

Drive is as a master on its own cable, tried removing all other devices, all other drives, same result!

So here's my latest "oddball" purchase, a Matrox Parhelia, but not an AGP one, a PCI-X one!

This is actually to go into a dual CPU build that has no AGP slot.
